I want to welcome you as your School Nurse. My role is to work with you and your child to ensure a smooth, healthy transition from the home to Overton Elementary School. I am here to assist in any way that I can as a nurse in the school health clinic. Remember, Healthy children learn better!

Texas law requires that all children entering public or private schools and institutions of higher learning be immunized. Validation of immunization records by a physician or public health clinic will be required for entering school. Please make sure these records are turned into the school office or nurse as soon as possible to avoid student being excluded from school.
Parents/Guardians must provide and deliver all prescription medications to the school. All medications must be in the original container, clearly labeled with the student's name, dosage and directions for administration. The Medication Administration Request form must be completed each school year and when there are any changes to the original request, such as a dose change. A separate form must be completed for each medication. Only FDA approved pharmaceuticals (prescription and non-prescription) manufactured within the United States will be administered. HOMEOPATHIC PREPARATIONS & ALLERGY INJECTIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to pick up all medications immediately after it is discontinued. At the end of the school year, all medication that has not been picked up will be destroyed.
LISD does provided several Over-the-Counter medications (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, cough drops, Pepto-Bismol, etc) that can be given to your student. The Parent/Guardian must sign and initial all medications allowed to be given by the School Nurse on an OTC Medication Administration Form. This form will be sent home in the student's Tuesday folders at the beginning of the year, but a parent/guardian may call at any time and request one be sent home. Please remember, that even Cough drops are considered a medication and can only be given with this signed permission form. Students CANNOT carry these with them to class.
YOU WILL NEED TO CALL AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TIME WITH NURSE TO BRING MEDICATIONS AND SIGN APPROPRIATE FORMS.
Students who have any food or other severe allergies requiring Emergency Anaphylaxis Medication (EpiPen), must have signed forms from Parent/Guardian and Physician. Parent/Guardian must provide these medications. If you have any questions regarding an allergy, please call school nurse.
YOU MAY CALL AND REQUEST THE FORMS BE SENT HOME AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TIME WITH NURSE TO BRING MEDICATION AND FORMS TO SCHOOL.
Students that require any special procedures such as catheterizations, tube feedings, diabetic care, seizure care, please call for necessary paperwork to be sent home.
