Writing on the Monitor

SMART Notebook -

Teachers still have the SMART Notebook software available to use on the Dell monitor. The only difference between the SMART Board and the Dell monitor is the pen capability. When using SMART Notebook in the Dell monitor, users will have to select the pen they want to use before they write instead of just picking up a pen and writing like they might be used to doing.

- 1. In Notebook, select the Pen or other tool to use
  2. When done with the pen or tool, select the arrow key to return to a cursor

Microsoft Office -

All of the Office products have built-in pen tools that can be used. View the Microsoft Office Page to see how.

Microsoft Edge

Built in Windows 10, Edge is the new Microsoft browser with built-in writing tools for web pages.

- 1. Start Microsoft Edge
  2. Navigate to your website
  3. Select the Pen icon to the right of the top toolbar
  4. Pens, erasers, notes, and clip tool will appear to the top left
  5. Save your ink by clicking the Save icon to the top right.

DisplayNote

DisplayNote will be installed on your PC. It is meant to be a presentation type software, but it does have a floating pen toolbar similar to SMART's floating toolbar.

1. Start the DisplayNote software
2. Select the rectangle with the plus sign icon
3. The Floating Pen tool will open
4. Double click the Pen to change Pen properties
5. The Eraser tools for partial or complete erasure
6. Click the top blue bar to shrink the floating pen tool; click the blue rectangle to open it again

DisplayNote does not work when the monitors are in extended mode. Either use duplicate mode or make the Dell monitor the Primary monitor.

There are other features to DisplayNote which are handy if you also have iPads in the classroom. The DisplayNote presenter software does not work with the Chromebooks at this time. As we discover new uses for DisplayNote we will update this page.
