Chromebook Quick Help Page

Having trouble with your Chromebook? Try these quick fixes before contacting the library!

Pro tips:

  • When working on your Chromebook, close all extra, unused tabs and apps you might have open!

  • Make sure when you are done with your Chromebook that you sign out and shut it down by using the "Shut Down" button on the lower left of the screen. Don't just close the lid!

To fix common problems and update your device:

First: Sign out from the Chromebook and then remove all accounts from the device. Do this by clicking on the small downward arrow next to the account name on the sign-in screen. Confirm that you want to remove the user. Do this for all accounts and then sign in again.

  • Second: After signing in, make sure that the device is up to date.

  • Go to Settings by clicking on the time in the lower right-hand corner

  • Click on the settings "wheel" at the top.

  • Click on "About Chrome OS" on the left, at the bottom of the list, and then click on "Check for Updates."

  • Some Chromebooks require two updates! Check for updates again, just to make sure!

  • Make sure you click "Restart" at the end of the update process!

  • Once you've updated your device, check to see if the problem has been solved.
