For all students taking an honors or Advanced Placement English course in the fall. Please read the book for the class you will be entering this August. You may purchase a copy of the book if you prefer to read it in hard copy.
Summer reading exams will be on the Wednesday after Labor Day in all classes.
Honors English students:
Mr. Hooker’s Honors English I (9th grade): The Hobbit (Tolkien)
Mrs. Hardiman’s Honors English II (10th grade): Animal Farm (George Orwell)
Mrs. Hardiman's Honors English III (11th grade): The Scarlet Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne)
Mrs. Hopkins’s Honors English IV (2 required): Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) and How to Read Literature Like a Professor (Thomas Foster)
Advanced Placement courses:
AP English Language and Composition (2 essays required): “Just Walk on By” by Brent Staples and “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan
AP English Literature and Composition (2 books required): Frankenstein (Shelley) and How to Read Literature Like a Professor (Foster). These books must be purchased in hard copy, as annotating the text is part of the AP summer assignment.
