My name is Ms. Salehi. You may address me as “Madame Salehi ”. I am delighted to be your instructor and eagerly await your return. This year will prove to be very exciting and filled with learning. As your teacher, I endeavor to be a culturally proficient educator. I hope to accost individual needs in utmost sensitivity and objectivity. I hope to promote reciprocal positive teacher-student interactions. I desire to construct a nurturing learning environment conducive to the promotion and development essential to foreign language acquisition. As an extension of French 3, students' language proficiency will increase through a continuation of exploration of the French language through domains such as Past tense and Imperfect past tense verb conjugation alongside new vocabulary formation. Course Description
In this course students should engage in classroom conversation and have a willingness to speak French daily. More new vocabulary in oral and written form is introduced. Learning new verbs is an essential part of the course. Listening comprehension exercises and reading will help the student interpret written and spoken French. Learning new grammar and syntactical structures are continued throughout the chapters of the text. Students will learn about French culture by reading and translating the lectures, cultural readings, and selected reading material of the course.
Student Objectives
To develop more confidence in oral expression of the target language
To recognize and use new vocabulary in speaking and writing
To conjugate and use verbs correctly in sentences and translations
To see the way in which words are put together to form phrases and sentences
To read French with more ease in the selected readings of the course
To study the language on a regular basis and to increase content reading
To improve writing skills by translating English to French correctly in compositions and formative assessments
To demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the French people and their culture
To enjoy reading literature about French history, music, and current issues in the French-speaking world
To understand the different customs and traditions of French-speaking countries and to know the role that family plays in France
Course content includes learning the following:
Activities include:
Reading and writing assignments, collaborative projects, compositions, magazines , formative assessments, worksheets, dictées, workbook and tape manual, selected readings and literature, games, puzzles, computer activities, various work on CANVAS, videos, films, projects, songs, cultural and holiday events including French cuisine.
Course requirements:
Participation in class by asking and answering questions in French
Students must bring their assigned textbook to class daily
Students should review daily assignments
Completion of activating strategies and dictations presented at the beginning of class
Engage as much as possible by speaking the target language in class.
Good classroom behavior, student cooperation, and positive attitude are encouraged. A participation grade is included with all other grades.
Oral presentations
Participation in various computer activities during class.
Completion of assignments and activities presented on GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Paired practice to increase oral proficiency and comprehension
Written tests, quizzes, and unit tests. All major tests are announced in advance. Preparation is expected.
Oral reading of selected lectures or reading material
Completion of regular homework assignments (points vary on content of work). Late homework assignments only receive half credit and must be submitted the following day. This includes written translations and other assigned work.
Maintenance of an organized binder for French. This will be checked on a routine basis.
Students must bring their chrome books to class each day, charged.
Written work completed in class such as translations, worksheets, communicative activities, activating strategies, dictées, etc.
Writing of compositions, letters, or formative assessments
Completion of individual or group projects
The grading system is based on the total number of points for the marking period. This includes points accumulated on class participation, homework, tests, quizzes, compositions, translations, readings, projects, etc. ects, etc.
