As you know, Cantemus is held to a very high standard regarding home practice. Here are some tips and tricks for making sure you are doing your part with your home practice.
Home practice should occur every day. It is helpful to plan out when you will practice, and to practice at the same time each day so that it becomes a habit! You should practice for a minimum of 10 minutes every day.
Your families know how musical you are! It is okay if your parents, guardians, siblings, and babysitters hear you practicing. You can practice any place at home that promotes focus and high quality music making. You don't need a piano or keyboard to practice, but it can be useful if that is a resource available to you.
All members of Cantemus are expected to practice at home every day. If you find you're having trouble practicing on your own, try teaching your music to a family member! You can teach them notes, rhythms, text, and/or movement. *Teaching is a fantastic memorization tool. We also encourage you to connect with your other choir members. Send each other recordings of what you're practicing. Have contests to see who is the most memorized. Get creative!
Asking "What should I practice?" is not a silly question! You have a lot of music, and it is unreasonable to expect you to cover the ground we cover in a regular 2-hour rehearsal every day. Keep an eye out for emails and announcements with instructions about what to practice. You have been receiving home practice emails weekly since the beginning of the year, so this should not be a change.
