Trinity GESE Exam
To strengthen our students' communication skills and confidence in using English, our school has incorporated the Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) by Trinity College London into the Form 1 and Form 2 curriculum. This internationally recognised qualification provides a meaningful platform for students to demonstrate their speaking and listening abilities in authentic contexts.
What are GESE examinations?
The GESE are one-to-one oral assessments conducted by native English-speaking examiners from Trinity College London. These examinations evaluate candidates’ proficiency in speaking and listening, focusing on their ability to communicate effectively in real-life situations.
The GESE framework consists of four progressive stages, each comprising three grades:
Initial Stage (Grades 1–3)
Elementary Stage (Grades 4–6)
Intermediate Stage (Grades 7–9)
Advanced Stage (Grades 10–12)
Registration
Students who wish to take the GESE examinations should obtain a registration form from their English teacher. As our school is an official examination centre, all examinations will be conducted on campus for the convenience of our students.
Preparation and Support
After registration, our English teachers will provide guidance and training to help students prepare effectively for the examination. In addition to following the English Language curriculum recommended by the Education Bureau (EDB), our school has also integrated GESE components into classroom activities and internal oral assessments to familiarise students with the exam format and expectations.
Recommended Grades by Level
To ensure students take an examination level that best matches their language ability, we generally recommend the following:
Form 1: Grades 2–3
Form 2: Grades 4–5
Form 3: Grades 5–6
Form 4: Grade 7
