There are many ways for you to participate in the career education of our students. Here are some options:
- Informational Interviews. Students call you or interview you in person about your field of work, getting an understanding of the education/experience required and the demands of the job itself.
- Guest Speaker. Come to Stowe High and visit an appropriate class where you share your experience in your career and help students make the connection between school/classroom learning and the world of work.
- Job Shadow. Allow a student to shadow you at work for a few hours so that he/she can get a better sense of what different tasks/skills/demands are part of your experience.
- Internship Mentor. Along with SHINE staff, design an Internship experience appropriate for both the student and the mentor. Develop a learning plan and provide feedback to the student. This is roughly a 40 hour experience, which is designed to fit the student's and the mentor's schedule (ex. one afternoon a week, one day every other week, a couple hours in the morning 2x/week, etc.)
Note: Internships are unpaid (unless required by law), and all mentors/site supervisors must be willing to participate in a LSSU Volunteer background check.
