AP Calculus AB represents the culmination of the Geometry, Algebra II, and Trigonometry/Precalculus courses students have taken throughout their high school careers. This accelerated-level AP course covers the equivalent of a full semester of college calculus. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to take the AP Calculus AB exam, which, with a passing score, will allow them to earn credit for Calculus I at many colleges and universities.
Topics covered include derivatives (with applications), curve sketching, optimization, related rates, integrals (with applications), differential equations, and solids of revolution.
Accelerated-level courses are designed for students who enjoy examining topics in mathematics more deeply through the exploration of non-routine, abstract and challenging math problems. Students are expected to analyze complex, multi-step problems with minimal repetition, readily apply concepts to new problems (even in testing situations) and consistently demonstrate mastery of previous topics and skills without re-teaching.
