Meet Ms. Lowe

Welcome to 8th grade language arts! The 2018-2019 school year is going to be full of learning and exciting challenges that will prepare you for high school and beyond. I am thrilled to be on this journey with you. My name is Jennifer Lowe and I have taught since 1999. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts from Benedictine College. I went on to graduate from the University of Central Missouri (UCM) with a Masters of Science in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After working as an editor to trade publications, I decided that my heart was in the classroom. I taught at Our Lady of Lourdes and at Grain Valley South Middle School prior to teaching at Lee's Summit where I have lived most of my life. I'm so happy to be "home" in LSR7.

I have three busy and sweet little girls who I'm happy to have occupy most of my free time. Ruby and Madelena, my oldest girls are twins, Gracie is my youngest and is in preschool. Our 11 year old boxer Daisy and 10 year old Boston Terrier Bella round out the family. I enjoy spending time in the yard and garden, hanging out at our pool, and I enjoy spending time at our family lake spot in Southeast Kansas.

Eighth grade ELA is a course designed to educate students in the ever-changing digital world, as well as to provide hands-on experience with industry standard software and equipment. The curriculum covers reading, writing, speaking and listening, and as often as possible, I incorporate as many opportunities for authentic reading and writing in a workshop environment. I strongly believe that children learn and excel in a classroom where they have the opportunity to try different approaches and to problem-solve their learning. I believe kids learn best in ELA when they can write and read what is important to their lives and in the world around them. I also believe that choice in learning is the vehicle for success.

I love teaching! I love working every day with incredible kids; watching them develop and discover who they are as the year progresses is an indescribable feeling that I feel blessed to experience as a career. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to teach your child this year. It is a team effort and I thank you in advance for the all the hard work and support you give; I could not do this job without you.

It's going to be a great year! If you need to reach me, please know that I am only a phone call or email away.
