Every year, powerful typhoons place millions of Filipinos in harm's way. Today, a single tap on a smartphone could provide the critical information needed to act before disaster strikes.
As the country observes Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week from June 14 to 20, 2026, the Department of Science and Technology's Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) launched the PAGASA National Hydro-Meteorological Observing Network (PANaHON), a mobile application that delivers near real-time weather forecasts, rainfall monitoring, and hazard advisories through a unified digital platform. Available for free on Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, the application makes PAGASA’s official weather services more accessible to Android and iOS users nationwide, bringing timely forecasts and hazard advisories directly to their fingertips.
PANaHON integrates hydrological and meteorological data into a centralized system, enabling users to monitor changing weather conditions and receive location-specific warnings for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, floods, and other weather-related hazards.
At the heart of the application is an interactive nationwide map that displays near real-time observations from PAGASA's monitoring network. Once location services are enabled, PANaHON sends timely alerts based on a user's location, helping communities anticipate threats before conditions worsen.
Beyond providing forecasts, the platform represents PAGASA's continuing shift toward digital weather services by transforming complex scientific data into practical, accessible information that supports faster and more informed decision-making.
To protect users' privacy, DOST-PAGASA assured the public that PANaHON complies with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173). The application collects only essential data, including device information, usage analytics, location data, and notification preferences, to improve the delivery of personalized weather advisories.
As one of the world's most disaster-prone countries, the Philippines continues to face recurring typhoons and floods intensified by its geography and a changing climate. DOST-PAGASA emphasized that building resilience requires the collective effort of government agencies, local communities, institutions, and individual citizens.
By placing weather intelligence directly into the hands of every Filipino, PANaHON demonstrates how meteorological science extends beyond forecasting stations. It empowers people to make informed decisions when every minute counts, proving that the nation's strongest defense against the next storm begins with knowledge delivered to the public before the first raindrop falls.
