Teachers will assess students' potential success on their choices and make appropriate recommendations.
We start with the student's top 3 picks. During the instrument trials, students will get to experience their top 3 instruments.
Many factors will help determine a student's success on their instrument. We look at height, dental structures, lip shape, and other physical factors that could make playing certain instruments easier or more challenging. We also get to know your students strengths and weaknesses from their classroom and general music teacher.
Balancing Ensembles is important. Part of an instrumental music teachers job is to make sure all students have the best music making experience possible. This includes making sure the ensembles are well "balanced" so that the group is able to play with a full sound and with all the instrument parts covered. (ie. A band of just flute players would have no harmony OR having too many percussionist will over power all of the other students in the band).
Results from the parent survey. It is very helpful that we have any relevant information when determining your student's instrument. Please fill this out at your earliest convenience.
