In addition to the regular lessons & after school activities, the English team also holds English Activity Days for all LSC students.
For our final English Activity Day of the year, we stretched, topped, and baked our way to some delicious Italian fun!
On 20th May, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome Chef Fabio, a talented, award-winning Italian Chef, who shared his pizza-making magic and inspiring journey to becoming an executive chef in one of Hong Kong's most famous restaurant groups.
The excitement kicked off with our HK Signature Pizza Design Competition, where 151 students submitted their most innovative ideas for a pizza that represents Hong Kong. After much deliberation, a total of 46 selected students, including 16 competition finalists, rolled up their sleeves and dove into the world of pizza-making, transforming the Home Economics Room into a bustling kitchen of creativity and conversation.
During the Pizza Workshop, students got hands-on, learning the art of stretching dough, balancing flavours, and baking their unique Margheritas, while some unleashed their wildest creativity, making bold and unique fusion pizzas topped with the most iconic ingredients of Hong Kong.
The day ended with Chef Fabio’s remarkable life story. We heard about how he worked his way up from sous-chef to executive chef with blood, sweat, and tears. His sharing had us wowing and gasping at the highs and lows of his career, reminding us of the weight of a dream and the true meaning of courage.
A massive thanks to Chef Fabio for sharing his passion, wisdom, and precious time with us, weaving an unforgettable experience for all students, making English learning as flavourful as possible, leaving our students with full hearts, full stomachs, and maybe even a newfound love for the art of cooking.
We hope you enjoyed the English Activities this year, and we look forward to having more fun with English next year!
17th December 2025
Ho, Ho, Ho! Did you join in the festive fun? Tuesday 17th December was the second English Activity Day of the year. We celebrated an Early Christmas with a host of songs at our Christmas Song Challenge, tantalisingly tasty turkey 🦃and some scrumptious sweet snacks 🍬.
Students listened to some clips of Christmas songs and then tried to complete a task based on the lyrics; rearranging words, ordering lines or spelling missing words. It was a real hoot!
And what was the reward for their keen listening skills? Well, some delicious treats of course! We had smooth and silky hot chocolate, served up with fluffy marshmallows. It’s not a real Christmas unless we have a traditional turkey dinner, so we had our bird flown in, cold smoked and all! And for dessert, we had homemade S’mores, courtesy of the English department catering ladies!
Over 100 students come to play and join in the Christmas cheer! We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we look forward to seeing you at our next English Activity Day. And, finally, Merry Christmas!
On Saturday 16th November, a group of 15 enthusiastic S1-S2 students embarked on an exciting adventure at the AFS Intercultural Fair in Tsuen Wan 🌐!
The event was organized by AFS Intercultural Exchanges, an NGO specializing in international volunteering and intercultural youth programs. This vibrant event brought together passionate exchange students from countries including Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Colombia, and Spain 🇩🇪 🇮🇹 🇫🇷 🇨🇭 🇹🇷 🇨🇴 🇪🇸, with each student eager to share their authentic cultural experiences.
Our students got to explore diverse customs and traditions through engaging activities designed by the overseas students. From lively dances and intriguing quizzes to fun card games and exotic snacks 🤤🥐🍝, the fair was a feast for the senses!
Not only did this event spark our students’ curiosity about the world, but it also ignited their confidence and cultural awareness. They left inspired and motivated to become active global citizens, ready to make a positive impact in our interconnected world. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and lasting connections! 🌏
Our 15 students will continue their learning journey at the Global Citizenship Education workshops in the following months to get ready for an interschool presentation competition in May. We hope these workshops empower our students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be responsible global citizens, as well as to boost their confidence and ability to master English.
If you want to join this program, please get in touch with Miss Jamie or your English teacher! You may find more details on AFS website: https://www.afs.hk/gce-program/
Go Bananas!
Did you have fun with us? Tuesday 8th October 2024 was our first English Activity Day of the academic year.
We had a fruit theme in celebration of national fruit at work day (Northern America), which perfectly fit our school theme of healthy eating and yearly motto - ‘manage your emotions, embrace a positive life’.
We had 3 attractive activities, starting with some tricky riddles. Students had to read the riddles and guess the fruity answers. Some students were very creative and came up with alternative answers to our riddles.
You could also play our game, ‘What’s in the Box?’. Use your senses to guess the fruit or vegetable inside the box. We laughed as some students struggled to tell when they were feeling! An orange 🍊? Or is it a lemon 🍋? It was an onion 🧅🤣!
We also had a more active game of sorting, reading and throwing! Can you identify if the produce was a fruit or vegetable? If it grows from a flower and contains seeds, it is a fruit!
Finally, students who participated in the games could exchange their efforts for a delicious fruit punch 🍹. Students chose their own unique combinations of fruits and vegetables to design and enjoy their fruit punch. We had over 100 students come to play and we served up over 80 cups of healthy and tasty punch! In fact, the principal came to show his support and was the first customer at the Juice Bar!
We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we look forward to seeing you at our next English Activity Day!

On Tuesday 14th May 2024, we held our 3rd and final English Activity Day.
Following Travel and Tourism Week, we had a special activity with UBS volunteers, who came to share their time abroad for study and work. At lunchtime, students came to chat with the guests and discover more about their different experiences abroad. Over 70 students came to meet the volunteers and then try delicious international snacks.
We had food representing each of the destinations the volunteers adventured to, with meatballsfrom Sweden, chocolates from England, dried mango from the Philippines, and maple syrup popcorn from Canada.
In the afternoon, our guests held a unique talk show with 5AB students, diving deeper into their stories. We heard about why they left home, the challenges they faced and the things they had learnt from their foreign experiences. Their sharing had us laughing and gasping at the twists and turns in their lives, finally carefully heading their advice.
‘Say yes to every opportunity, you never know where it might lead you!’
‘Try new things and get out of your comfort zone’
‘Allow yourself to make mistakes’
We hope this special opportunity to meet and learn from volunteers will inspire our students to look further and wider into the world. A massive thanks to Miss Jamie for organising and leading this activity, to TUF and UBS for helping organise this event and of course to our volunteers for sharing their precious time with us.

The English department recently organized a highly effective phonics class for all S.2 students during the last week of November. We have invited Principal Hu and his team to be the instructors of the 3 phonics class sessions.
The program was a great success, providing an intensive learning experience for everyone involved. Students gained valuable knowledge and skills through the class, greatly enhancing their phonics abilities.
Did you have a wonderful Christmas time? We for sure did at LSC! On the last Tuesday of the year we held our second English Activity Day. It was the perfect time for winter festivities, including music, drinks and delicious turkey!
At lunch time, students can down to the newly renovated LSC Stage and listened to some popular Christmas tunes. Testing their ears, they had to complete a series of challenges based on the song lyrics in order to obtain a tasty treat. There was Mariah Carey, Michael Bublé, Wham! and more! Having finished their tasks, students visited the Christmas bar for refreshments. As mentioned, we had cold smoked turkey and a selection of warming drinks, including a deliciously spiced, warm apple cider (no alcohol of course).
Much appreciation and praise to the English-student helpers who helped prepare and worked at the music song stations, and compliments to the teacher chefs in charge of the food and drink. During the lunch hour, hundreds of slices of turkey were gobbled down, along with numerous cups of milk, chocolate and cider.
Just by looking at the photos, you can tell we had a merry, merry Christmas! We hope you enjoyed this activity and look forward to seeing you in the next year!
What do you call a dear with no eyes? The answer is… No idea!
With Mid-Autumn Festival just around the corner, there was no better way to celebrate than to solve lantern riddles.
Even before we started, students read out riddles at announcement time every recess for a week, getting everybody in the mood for Mid-Autumn. Students also submitted their own devious riddles which we used for the activity day.
Finally, on Tuesday 26th September, we had our big activity! At lunch time, students, teachers and other staff members came to the school hall to try and answer some tricky riddles. With over 20 riddles to tickly your brain, you were sure to get the answer for some of them. If you could answer enough correctly, you’d win a delicious frozen treat of mochi ice cream! We had classic vanilla, sweet ube and refreshing Fuji apple. Hundreds of mochi ice creams were won by those smart enough and thinking outside of the box!
Not only ice cream, but the first students to correctly answer a riddle were rewarded with a lantern for their quick wits and effort. The fastest answers were given by the following students…
1A03 Hui Tsz Yan 1A06 Lee Cheuk Wing

Finally, we also held a lantern making competition. One creative student submitted his piece and duly won the first place prize. The winner was 1C Tsang Cheuk Nam! Our 2 judges, Art teacher Miss 小丸 and NET teacher Terence Sir, gave comments for the winning student’s work:
The student demonstrated excellent technique in making his paper lantern. With paper crafting skills, simple materials such as bamboo splints and coloured papers were tied up to make a good structure. - 小丸
The student showed great creativity with a removeable bandana on his head. Taking it off would reveal a pair of white, angry eyes. Very smart. - Terence Sir
We shared great joy this acitivy day, celebrating Mid-Autumn.
We hope you had fun too and look forward to seeing you at our next English Activity Day!
What a result!
Earlier this year, 32 of our students participated in the 74th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival.
With the help of teachers’ coaching, they worked hard to understand, memorise and perform English poems. As with recent years, due to Covid-19, the competition has changed from live performances to a video submission process. Students practiced tenaciously and put forward their best performances, resulting in very high scores across the board and also some top 3 finishes! Examining the scores closely, we discovered that many of our students just missed out on getting a top 3 placing. Though disappointed, it encourages and motivates us to refresh, work hard and try again next year!

This afternoon was our third and final Activity Day of the year!
As summer was just around the corner, we had a summer themed Activity Day with our Summer Hits Challenge. Students listened to short extracts of English songs about summer and then completed tasks based on the lyrics. Maybe it was filling in the blanks, rearranging lyrics or finding the rhyming pairs. We had 10 different songs with a range of tasks prepared. If students completed 3 of the tasks, they could win a prize of designing their own mini sandwich at our sandwich bar, just like at SUBWAY sandwiches!
However, the challenge wasn’t over yet, as students had to order their tasty treat in English. First, they could choose their own type of bread, then protein choices of turkey-ham, smoked salmon and cream cheese, as well as veggies and sauces. Not only limited to savoury options, we also had sweet condiments of chocolate spread, peanut butter, strawberry jam and bananas. We saw some crazy combinations!
With 2 completed tasks, students could obtain a refreshing mint lemonade with an optional salt rim on their cup. Ah… what a revitalising drink, perfect for the hot, hot weather. In fact, the mint was freshly picked from our own Eco-garden that very morning!
Aside from the many helpers who ran the music game stalls, sandwich bar and lemonade stand, over 150 students came to play! Fantastic! We had a great time and wish students all the best for the up-coming exams.
That’s all we have time for this year, but be sure join in our activities in the next academic year!

2022 - 2023 English Fun Days
From Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th April 2023, we held our annual English Fun Days!
A crescendo of English fun and games for the whole school. What did we do this year?
Throughout the three days, students could speak with teachers to earn coins (in English of course!) It was great to see teachers come and join in the fun too. Did you see the principal, vice principals and other teachers from outside the English department join in the fun? Then, on Wednesday and Thursday, the activities at lunch time began.
We had games stalls where students could participate and win more coins. One game involved students reacting to different words and throwing tissues into the correct boxes, testing reaction times and hand-eye co-ordination! Another popular game was Pictionary! Could you guess the words from the drawings?
Having collected some coins, you could spend them in a number of different ways.
First in the infamous English Café. They had a range of tasty food and drinks, including freshly made waffles, jellies, bubble tea and Miss Jamie’s special summer beach soda!
The song dedication corner was also a hit, with student DJs playing some cool tunes. For a few coins, students could request a song and dedicated it to their classmates or teachers too!
New for this year, we have a photo booth, with student cameramen and women, ready to snap photos of you and your friends. The booth was decorated with beautiful backdrops and students received their Instax instant photos immediately! We were quickly sold out as we ran out of film.
Lastly, the ever-popular prize counter where students could exchange their hard-earnt coins for stationery, books and other school supplies, as well as stuffed toys and puzzles. There’s something for everyone.
In the afternoon assembly, we had the Big Quiz. Students formed teams to take part in quick fire questions on different subjects at school. The cross-curricular quiz was super exciting as different groups performed well at different tasks. We had a lot of fun in the quiz, with an ultimate winner of team B for junior form and team A for the senior form. The full results were as follows.
Junior Winners: Team B (21 points)
1st runners-up: Team C (14 points)
2nd runners-up: Team D (9 points)
3rd runners-up: Team A (5 points)
Senior Winners: Team A (19 points)
1st runners-up: Team D (13 points)
Joint 2nd runners-up: Teams B & C (8 points)
Last but by no means least was our drama performance to round up the assembly time. Teachers Miss Matteo, Miss Po, Miss Kwan and Miss Iris, and their S.2 students prepared a hilarious short skit about tourism in Hong Kong and the Chinglish they experienced. Students laughed throughout the performance and were able to answer questions afterwards too! Prizes of giant fish balls and fresh coconut tarts were a surprising treat after a wonderful show!
What a fabulous few days of English fun for everyone!
We hope you enjoyed them as much as we did and look forward to our last English Activity Day in May!

2022 - 2023 Second English Activity Day
Tuesday 13th December 2022 was our second English Activity Day!
For our second activity it was fitting to have 2 activities.
First off, we held a Book Crossing in the library where students and teachers could donate books and more importantly, choose a new book to take home. Hundreds of students came to browse and snap up a bargain book, but of course, they were free!
Students also had the opportunity to share a review of their new book. The best reviews will be published soon.
During lunch and after school, we also had a book quiz in the covered playground. We learned about the different genres of fiction books and more about popular titles or authors. Students who found the correct answers won a special prize, a steamy cup of hot chocolate, perfect for a cold winter day. Over a hundred cam down to participate, but all 80 cups of hot chocolate were awarded very quickly!
Come and join us next time to practice your English, learn something new and have fun!
2022 - 2023 First English Activity Day
Tuesday 11th October 2022 was our first English Activity Day of the year!
We held an English-speaking where teachers and students spoke in English. Students who took part were awarded coins each time they spoke. At recess and after school they spent their hard-earned cash at our Candy Store! Yum Yum!
Everyone had lots of fun practicing English together as teachers of every subject participated; speaking with students during class and at recess. All in all, we handed out over 2800 coins!
We look forward to our next English Activity Day!
