The NBC process taught me to prioritize the outcome of what my students learned or contributed to the learning. What we do (our process) to teach is important but if no one progresses in the learning, then the teaching was for not!

I was hesitant about going through the National Board Certification process until I finished my master's degree in Education Theory and Practice from ASU. I became a teacher through the non-traditional program in 2007. My undergraduate degree is in nursing, so completing National Board Certification was something I really worked hard to achieve. The process contributed to my desire to further explore strategies to enhance my commitment to creating an environment of equity and inclusivity while opening the minds of students to the many possibilities they have yet to discover. The expansion of my learning community greatly supported student learning and provided me with the insight needed to dissect student data required to grow students from every level. To say that becoming board certified was helpful would be a great understatement. Becoming a National Board Certified teacher has been one of my proudest moments as an educator. I have always been an analytical individual, but as a direct result of the process, I have become a more purposeful and a more reflective educator and thinker. As I have transitioned from the role of a classroom teacher to specialist to facilitator to an administrator, the knowledge gained benefited me as well as others I have had the honor to collaborate with and mentor. The process is a rigorous one, but it is one that I would recommend to anyone because of the amount of growth and knowledge gained that is immeasurable!

For me, the process of National Board Certification was the absolute best professional development I have ever completed. I became a truly reflective educator. The process validated things I was already doing in my classroom with my students but more so provided an opportunity to grow and refine my focus on student learning in every situation. Completing the process has allowed me many opportunities to step into leadership roles without leaving the classroom. Due to the value of the process, I believe National Board Certification should be the norm for educators and not the exception.

The National Board Certification process is by far the best professional development I have ever received!
