2/21/25: We are happy to announce that we will have a SJM MARDI GRAS PARADE next Friday afternoon! Faculty/Staff members (that are interested) will be in the parade and the students will be the parade-goers. If you are interested, you are responsible for your own beads/throws. We welcome anyone to sign up! BUT, please remember that some teachers will need to stay with classes to monitor. • i-Ready Growth Monitoring #5- February 21st.  Every T2, T3, and 3-5 SPED LEAP student should begin testing this day. This is not optional. 

• ELPT testing is still taking place all this week and next  week.  Please control the noise level when entering and exiting the building.  

• AR- End of 9W3 incentive:  Movie and ice-cream sundae- Please incentivize students to read and test AR books to meet their goals.  

• On February 26th from 5:00pm- 6:30 pm, SJM is having Numeracy Night with Bingo and Pizza.  We are looking for 5 people to help as right now we have 31 families attending (127 people).  You would be doing a great service assisting us with setup, concessions, bingo, and/or monitoring families.  Please send me your name if you are interesting in helping us. 2/10/25: Starting on Tuesday, we will begin Trivia Tuesday on the morning announcements. The morning crew will state a trivia question and if you are interested in participating, whoever answers first in your class can earn something (a cub buck, piece of candy, etc) from the teacher. There's no call-in to the front office. It's just simply a way for students to engage in your classroom. If you have questions, please let me know! This idea was given by Ms. Chiasson in 3rd grade, so shout out to her!!

1/31/25: I wanted to take some time to truly want thank you for all you do. The work you do is some of the most difficult work possible. Every person on this campus plays a vital role in educating our students. Many of you are faced with challenges that most people would never understand unless they took the time to walk in your shoes. I want you to know that I see the hard work you are doing and you are making a difference everyday (even when you think you aren't). I know this job is demanding and there always seems to be more to do, but I would never ask you to do something I didn't think was important to either grow you as an educator or your students (unless it is a district mandate of course). We have an amazing staff and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with you. Have a wonderful Friday!

12/12/24:  I Ready math- Incase you did not know:  Teacher assigned lessons  must be set weekly. Make sure when assigning teacher assigned lessons in iReady, the dates have to be from a Monday to a Friday. So this week the dates should be 12/9-12/13. 1. When contacting the admin team regarding student behaviors, please be mindful that we may not be available to come to your room immediately. Arrangements for administration to pick up students are made on a case by case basis. All other behaviors that warrant assistance should follow the TOA procedure. 

2. If a student asks to see a member of administration or the counselors and it involves something that another student has said or did, please let us know as soon as possible. 

3. Teachers cannot take recess away from students on a regular basis. If a student earns a time out of recess, they must be given limited recess. However, students can be asked to make up work during recess as long as the parent gives consent and it is documented in JCampus Communication.

After teachers have completed the 25 modules for Act 260, (4th, 5th grade teachers and Sped, EL  teachers who teach math 4th and 5th graders) they must take a final exam. 10/28/24:  From LPSS math department:  It has been brought to our attention by iReady that lesson alerts are not being monitored for those students that are utilizing MyPath.  These alerts are displayed when viewing Personalized Instruction Summary reports.  These alerts only apply to My Path Lessons.  

A Yellow Alert indicates that a student is struggling with lessons. It appears when a student does not pass the same lesson twice. A yellow alert will go away if: 

• student passes the next lesson in the same domain. 

• teacher adjusts the student's lesson placement in that domain. 

• teacher turns the domain off and then back on again manually (i.e. because the teacher paused the student's instruction in the domain while providing intervention, and then turned the domain back on when the student was ready to work again). 

A Red Alert indicates that at least one domain has been shut off. It appears when a student doesn't pass two lessons in a row within a domain, after two attempts at each lesson. The domain is then turned off i.e., the student will be unable to access additional lessons in the domain. A Red alert will go away if: 

• the teacher intervenes and turns the domain back on. 

If a student has an alert, the student level report should be viewed by the teacher to see which lesson wasn’t passed. The teacher should consider intervening and finding resources to help remediate these skills before turning the domain back on.

10/25/24: AR Kickball Game Information

1. All PreK-1st grade teachers should bring their students to the playground to participate in cheering on the 5th graders "or the faculty" during the kickball game this afternoon. 

2. In 2nd-5th grade: only those students who made their AR goal for the 1st 9 weeks will attend the game. 

3. We will begin calling for teachers to start bringing their students between 1:45-2:00 pm. 

4. 2nd-5th grade teachers should send a teacher outside with those students who made their goal and split the remaining students in the grade-level among the remaining students. 

5. Teachers can alternate (take turns coming out to watch the game if they want to).  Those participating in the game do not need to rotate as they will be playing. 

6. If any grade-level needs additional coverage please let Dr. LB know. 

7. Student spectators should be watching the game and not playing on the playground equipment. Please monitor students closely. 

8. Speak to students prior to attending the game to remind them of the expectations for being a good spectator and/or a good sportsman. 

9. No electives will take place after 2:00 pm today.

10/23/24:  Teachers:  Grade Level  Bulletin boards and a cafeteria bulletin board has been updated to reflect a mid 9W2 incentive for accelerated reader (AR).  Students that meet half of their 9W2 goal will be given a MAGIC ticket to receive a mystery bag that has Flamin' Cheetos and other goodies.  Deadline to meet half their goal is November 13, 2024 @ 3pm.  No exceptions.   FYI: The end of the 9W2 incentive will be a movie and popcorn party.  Please share this with your students to incentivize them to read books and take their AR test.  ~Lena & Laurie

9/27/24 Teachers, please read to the end.  Bring a hat, a blanket, a refreshing drink and some food!  Our literacy picnic is here! After the Literacy Picnic PowerPoint presentation, everyone will go outside find a place in the grass and siblings will be able to join and sit as a family for the picnic.  You will be able to relax while your kiddos enjoy some time with their family.  (Please remember not all parents will come and some of your kiddos will picnic with you and eat a bag lunch.) The weather is beautiful so enjoy this opportunity! 

There are some things you need to know about prior to the start of it.  The PowerPoints per grade level are below.  All papers to give to parents are located in your box.  You also have a class roster for student check outs if any.  That will need to be turned into the office.  You will also have IASPs in your box.  Individual Academic Support Plans or IASPs need to be signed by their parents.  Try to get as many parents as possible to sign and return before they leave your class tomorrow. Please have pens available for signing and a place to collect those papers.   YOU will be the person of record to get the signed IASPs back from parents.  ALL must come back as it is now mandated through district and LDOE.  

NEW this year: Literacy IAIPs for K-3rd are for students not scoring benchmark on DIBELs and grade 4th & 5th are based on not scoring Mastery or Above on LEAP ELA. Students will also have Numeracy IAIPs for K-3rd which are based on students that are 2-3 grade levels below in iReady and 4th/5th are based on not scoring Mastery  or Above on LEAP Math.  This is now a new mandate by state and all school districts must adhere. 

PreK- 2nd activities are connected to CKLA.  Second grade will also have AR as well to assist with comprehension. 

3rd - 5th will connect to AR.  Please view you power point ahead of time. You can pull up AR on your board and discuss expectations and show parents what it entails. 

Please find your power point and use your knowledge of CKLA skills and AR to support parents in how to help their child learn at home.  Remember, don't just read the slides. MODEL what is expected. Click your grade level PowerPoint below.

8/26/24: Eddie B. Comedy Tour is coming to the Heymann Performing Arts Center on October 5th and Ms. Paula thought it would be a great opportunity to get all of us together to go and watch the show. The show is on Saturday, October 5th. Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm. We have selected balcony seating so we can get the most seats for the best price without getting into too much trouble. Ms. Paula will purchase all the seats at one time. Total cost for the ticket is $28.00 + $3.31 fees for a total of $31.31. Please either Venmo her the money or pay in cash no later than 9/2 in order to make sure she will purchase a ticket for you. 8/18/2024: During RTI please make sure to start setting expectations and looking at groups this week.  This week for RTI: Complete placement test in LEXIA during RTI for all grade levels.  During PLCs, we will look at LEXIA and how to complete the Data Planner that has been shared in Google Classroom.   You will receive hard copies of the Lexia Data Planner during PLCs this week as well.  RTI will start officially next week 8/26/ 2024 after we get benchmark data.  Tutors are assisting with the K-3 Literacy Assessments (DIBELS) so they will not start pushing into classrooms until the week of 8/26/2024.  ~ Lena Dugas

8/12/2024      K-5th MATH teachers:  The iReady BOY Math Diagnostic opens the week of August 12th HOWEVER we will NOT take the diagnostic until the week of August 19-23, 2024.  The week of August 12th should be used to show students the protocols to complete the diagnostic assessment and to incentivize.  Students should be working problems out on scratch paper, know the procedures for login and setting expectations about this assessment. This diagnostic will not be completed during RTI but during your math time as it is built into your math pacing calendar.  If a student is absent when you give the diagnostic they WILL need to make it up upon return to school. As a reminder, if a student receives rush flags, etc. district is no longer allowing for resets.  It is important that teachers monitor students as they test. I ask that grade level lead teachers email me what the incentive is for the BOY math diagnostic.  Thank you for all that you do.  ~ Lena Dugas

4/22/24: Faculty and staff: please remember that any time you as an employee get hurt at work, an incident report needs to be filed if there is any possibility of long lasting injury (Ex. a student bites you, or you fall and hit your knee on a hard surface). 

Also, an incident report should be made anytime a student is injured. You must call mom if they hit their head, but can use your judgement if they scrape their knee etc. However, if a child complains of something hurting after a fall, call the parents.

4/11/24: Good afternoon,

This morning Ms. Karen and Mr. Allen located a firearm outside the building while conducting their morning walk throughs. Corporal Fife and central office personnel were contacted and the Sheriff's Department took possession of the firearm immediately. 

The incident occurred prior to anyone arriving on campus and initial details from the investigation do not show any connection to SJ Montgomery. Please know that your safety and the safety of the students continues to be a priority for myself, the admin team, and central office. 

At this time, law enforcement has taken the lead in this matter.

4/3/24: Please see information below regarding Monday's solar eclipse. We have purchased solar eclipse viewing glasses for each student, faculty, and staff. Please make sure permission slips go home with students today. We will send a JText out to parents this afternoon, but please send an additional reminder through your class communication group. Please read the following reminders carefully:

1. Every student must have a permission slip turned in before they can go out to view the eclipse. (Highlight student names on the class roster as students bring their slips back). 

2. Each grade-level will need to select a teacher (or rotate teachers in and out) to sit with those students who do not have permission slips. 

3. Teachers should decide how long to be outside as a grade-level. Weather permitted, teachers can begin going outside as early as 1:00 pm, but must be out by 1:30 pm. 

4. Teachers can begin returning to class as early as 2:00 pm, but can stay as late as 2:30 pm. 

5. The greatest % of the eclipse will be seen at 1:46 pm. 

6. Teachers must actively monitor students while watching the eclipse.

7. Students are not allowed to free play on the playground during the eclipse (12:46-3:06 pm).

3/20/24: All classrooms being used for testing, should begin taking down or covering ALL teaching materials.  If you are in doubt, take it down or cover it up.

3/20/24:  AR HOT DOG AND MOVIE PARTY on Thursday, March 21st - We had 116 students make their goal during the 3rd 9 weeks!  Super proud of everyone's hard work!!! We will have an AR Hot Dog and 30 minute Movie Party in the library for these students on Thursday, March 21st.  Grade 3 will attend from 1:00-1:30.  Grades 4-5 will attend from 1:40-2:10. Grade 2 will attend from 2:25-2:55.  We ask that a teacher from each grade level please escort these students to and from the library at their designated times.  Mrs. Landry placed a list of these students in each teacher's box this morning.  -- Sarah & Laurie   

3/20/24:  3rd 9 WEEKS Grades 2-5 PRINCIPAL'S LIST AND HONOR ROLL AWARDS:  Teachers, these awards for your students were placed in your boxes this morning.  The Principal's List Breakfast will be this Friday morning.  We will do an all call when it is time for them to come come to the cafeteria.  Please send these students with their "invitations."  These were also in the awards packets that were placed in your boxes this morning. -- Sarah 

3/20/24: MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 

3/19/24 Teachers:  The new School Funds Online system will start on April 1st. You should have received the notice for the training on Public School Works. Everyone is required to take the training. To review the slides again click HERE. I am also including a copy of the Teacher Quick Start guide. To review the guide click HERE. Please keep this for your reference. If you have any questions, please let me know, but remember this is a new system and I am learning along with you all. You will no longer have to write receipts as of April 1st, but will have to record the payments online and submit through School Funds Online and make a printout to turn in your money in to me for deposit. Please use your current envelopes and record the payments until the end of year. If you can be assured your students have a correct email address in JCampus, this will be the way that the parents will receive receipt of payments. Thank you for your assistance. Anna

  • These students will be dismissed from bus lanes after all regular buses have been dismissed.

03/14/2024 9W3 Report Card Codes : 9W3 report card codes will be placed in your box before end of the day.  Please make sure that these codes are entered.  

Grade 3 ELA teachers, you will have an additional report card code to place on some of the report cards regarding Dibels MOY scores. I will also place another copy of student scores to send home in your box as well. ~ Lena

• This afternoon all faculty and staff are asked to split into the 4 classrooms in orange doors. Ms. Paula will put the training video on for you to watch. The video is approximately 25 minutes long. EVERYONE on campus must be security trained. Make sure you complete the sign-in after you watch the video. Attached is the schedule for make up test security training. These are the only make-up times available. Information will be placed in your box letting you know who is testing paper test and computer test.

At its last meeting, the Lafayette Parish School Board approved a one-time Para-Educator to Teacher Training Program Stipend for LPSS Employees who meet the listed criteria. This stipend is being offered to any employee who is in a para or a support position and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree while enrolled in a teacher certification program.

2/16/24: Good morning. Please check the schedule for the Financial Literacy activities today. 4th and 5th grade Financial Literacy schedules will not begin until 10:00 am due to the practice test. If your PE time occurs during the FL lessons, a support staff has been assigned to come to your room to cover your class while you take a break. Please be prompt when returning so the next teacher will receive their break. At NO time may the volunteers be alone with the students. 

Use this time to grade papers, enter grades, file papers, complete lesson plans etc. You are not responsible for the lessons, but only making sure the students are behaving. 

I will be off campus until  around 11 and Ms. Sanders will be off campus from 11 until around 1. 

2/15/24: We will print progress reports for teachers to send home tomorrow as we did not send them home last Thursday.

Support staff are being asked to push in during regular grade-level PE times so teachers will have a break. *Support staff who have been asked to assist will have a copy of the schedule in their box.  4th grade will have an adjusted lunch time.  Please speak to your students about how to be an active listener and assign some of the class a job to greet the visitors when they arrive. • We will collect Mardi Gras beads when we return from the break. The grade level with the most collected will earn an ice cream party. 

2/8/2024: On Friday, February 16, 2024, we will have a LEAP 2025 mock practice test to ensure the system is ready for testing. Students in 4th and 5th grade will take session 1 of the Science LEAP practice test which will begin at 9:00 a.m. The NEW update on this practice test is:  students must complete Session 1 of the Science test (not 30 minutes). 2/6/2024: Teachers:  Gentle Reminder: February 16, 2024 is "Random Acts of Kindness Day" and we would like to celebrate this day by spotlighting a student that is a "bucket filler" in each grade level that exhibits kindness.  With this in mind, grade-level teams should nominate one student that  is a "bucket filler" and stands out amongst his/her peers to support, respect, and show acts of kindness.  Once your bucket filler is picked, we would like to know more about him/her.  A "Random Act of Kindness" form will be placed in your grade level representative's box to fill out and turn into me by February 7th so that those students can be celebrated.  Way to Go first grade teachers for turning your "bucket filler" early!!!

2/5/24: We LOVE our counselors!!!! To celebrate School Counselors Week, tomorrow will be a dress up day for all students and staff. 2/5/24: The word of the month is KINDESS. In the cafeteria, we made a bulletin board that says, "Be the "i" in kind." Each week we invite you to fill out a google form with a name (or names) of students who were caught being kind. We will take a picture of each student being the "i" in kind and give them a shout out on our facebook page as well as the morning announcements. 2/5/24: ELPT AND LEAP CONNECT TESTING - ELPT testing (for EL students) will run from Feb 21-Mar 8.  I am attaching a schedule HERE so that you can check the exact dates that your students will be testing.  They will test in Room 120 with myself and the ESL teacher from your grade level.  LEAP CONNECT testing (for sped students in grades 3-5 from Mrs. Wade's, Mr. Domec's and Mrs. Guillory's classes) will run from Feb 21-Mar 1.  They will be testing in rooms 2A and 2F in the 5th grade hall. -- Sarah

1/25/2024: Teachers:  February 16, 2024 is "Random Acts of Kindness Day" and we would like to celebrate this day by spotlighting a student that is a "bucket filler" in each grade level that exhibits kindness.  With this in mind, grade-level teams should nominate one student that  is a "bucket filler" and stands out amongst his/her peers to support, respect, and show acts of kindness.  Once your bucket filler is picked, we would like to know more about him/her.  A "Random Act of Kindness" form will be placed in your grade level representative's box to fill out and turn into me by February 7th so that those students can be celebrated.

1/19/2024:  Today, January 19th, the iReady  Math Growth Monitoring #4 has been pushed out to K-5 students in Tiers 2, 3 and SPED.  Those students should complete their growth monitoring by January 26th. Keep in mind: You may use your RTI, small group, and special time to make sure that they have ample time to complete.  Students should be working problems out on scratch paper.  As a reminder, if a student receives rush flags, etc. district is no longer allowing for resets.   It is important that teachers monitor students as they test.  Thank you for all that you do.  ~ Lena Dugas

1/18/24: Good morning SJM. I have a few announcements. 

1. No PLCs today and the behavior meetings are canceled for this month as well. 

2. Bus 540 will not be running this afternoon. *This also means that the Boys and Girls Club will not have a bus either. Students will be released in the front bus lanes beginning at 3:25 pm. 

3. If you see any issues with heat, bathrooms, water fountains etc., please let me know ASAP. Everything should be in working order or in process of being fixed. 

4. I went last week to select some furniture from Carencro Heights for SJ, in hopes of replacing some of our older furniture with newer furniture. They will be here this morning and will most likely make a couple of trips. I will let you know when furniture arrives. I will send a remind out for teachers to come to the front to pick out furniture if they need it. There will be office chairs, teacher desks, and kidney tables (along with some other items). If you know you need on or more of these items, please email me prior to 8:30 am and I will start a list. For example: if you either do not have these items or they are falling apart please let me know and I can send it your way immediately. 

5. We will let you know when the AR dance party and the principal's list breakfast is scheduled.

6. Report cards go home today. Honor roll and principal's list certificates will go out next week since the Dibels team is still testing. 

7. We will push observations back to start next week. 

8. Make every minute count today and tomorrow to get kids back on track and actively learning. 

9. As soon as we have an opportunity to go out for a fire drill we will, but will send a Remind prior. 

1/18/2024: 1st and 2nd grade teachers:  Due to being out Tuesday and Wednesday, 1st grade Dibels testing will be moved to January 22nd and 23rd.   Dibels will continue as planned today and tomorrow for 2nd grade as January 18th and 19th was originally assigned to 2nd grade assessing. 11/30/2023: Good Morning teachers:  The i-Ready Math MOY Diagnostic will be pushed out on December 4th for ALL students in grades K-5th.  I am asking that your students complete the Diagnostic during RTI/small group times until completed.  The goal is to have it completed by  December 8th. Remember,  you want to gain critical insights into student progress, and the second Diagnostic is an important benchmark that can provide that information. Reliable data from this assessment will help with planning specific and targeted instruction, supporting students with what they need most.  All students should have adequate amounts of time (see schedule below) to complete the i-Ready Math MOY Diagnostic.  It should not be completed in one sitting.  Students should be working problems out on scratch paper.   It is important that teachers monitor students as they test.  District & SJM is tracking the amount of time students are taking to complete the test as well as progress.  Please incentivize your students. Good morning! Please make sure students go to the restroom before going to PE. Many students are asking to go to the restroom and it makes it difficult for the coaches to conduct their activities when they must monitor students going to the restroom. Remember no student should use the Teal bathrooms except those who have homerooms in Teal. 

This is also a gentle reminder that SLTs are due to Dr. LB today. They need to be uploaded into HCIS, printed, and put with the SLT tracker and turned into my box. Reach out to your IL if you are having trouble. 

RtI and small group times are meant for implementing the strategic interventions driven by discussions from data analysis during PLCs. It is not a time to catch up on paperwork, make phone calls, or visit with other staff members. All staff should be working with students or actively monitoring student work.

11/27/23: Welcome back everyone!!

A couple of reminders and updates for today:

1. If possible, please decorate your door and/or patio with Christmas decorations.  

2. Ms. Romero is out today and will not be able to hand out the names for the ornament exchange until she returns (hopefully tomorrow). 

3. Although morning duty staff will look for hoodies, please check your students as they enter and send anyone with a hoodie to the office (no hoodies at any time even if they are tucked in). 

4. Consider starting the day with a class discussion on how everyone's break went and then review classroom/school expectations. Having them journal for a few minutes and then sharing out with their partner is a good way to get their brains going. (No more than 10-15 minutes)

5. If you have any internet issues, please let the front office know. Central office worked on the system over the break and wants to know if there are any problems. 

6. Ms. Sanders is out today for training. Please text me if you need anything.

10/24/23:  We had a recent visit from the GOTR home office during one of our practices lately. I just had to share what they had to say about our team:  

SJ Montgomery Girls on the Run and Coaches are on Fire!!! The girls' energy was amazing and the coaches worked well together with sharing parts of the lesson for the day!  Thank you for all you do with the team! I especially love that we make the program inclusive for all girls, and I appreciated the interpreter instructor on stand by.

10/13/23: Reminders for grades and Compass Evaluation Close Outs (for Vam teachers only)

1. Be sure to print a copy of your grades and attendance at the end of every nine weeks and keep to turn in at the end of the year. 

2. For VAM teachers, once your final SLT has been rated, print the SLT, print the SLT tracker (this is your data to support the SLT rating), and then go into HCIS and acknowledge your evaluation, print the report, and sign it. Then place all of them in my box. 

3. Parent Teacher Conference: Professional dress, use the sign-in sheets that were placed in your box. Lunch is from 3-4pm.

9/29/23: MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 

9/29/23: Good morning SJM. Here are a few announcements for today's schedule and picnic. 

1. No auxiliary classes or RtI will be held today. Auxiliary teachers will begin giving teachers breaks around 9:30 am and will make sure everyone gets a break. 

2. Teachers should modify their schedules as much as possible to preserve core instruction. This is an instructional day. You should be teaching. 

3. You have received two roster lists. 

   1. Lunch count: highlight the students who need a lunch from the cafeteria and send to Ms. Christine ASAP. If a student says their parent is bringing a lunch highlight them anyway. 

   2. Checkout roster: after thinking about it, I decided it may be better to have parents check their students out in the classroom. DO NOT encourage parents to check them out. Instead say, "We encourage you to leave your student here to continue learning with us, but if you choose to check them out you must return with your child to the classroom to check them out after the picnic. 

   3. Teachers will conduct the literacy lesson in their classrooms.

   4. Admin will deliver lunches to the classroom before you go to the playground for the picnic. 

   5. Teachers will go outside and picnic with the students who do not have parents/guardians present. 

   6. Families may picnic together, so if a parent has multiple children in different grade levels they may all sit together. 

   7. All auxiliary and support staff should be circulating and monitoring the children/families during the picnic. 

   8. Reach out if you have any additional questions. 

4. We have to have a fire drill today! It will either be around 10:00 am or 2:30 pm. We will send a remind out before to let you know. 

9/28/23 SJM Fall Literacy Picnic:  Teachers:  If you have K-3 parents that do not attend the Literacy Picnic tomorrow, please DO NOT send the packets home with the students.  The packets will be collected either tomorrow afternoon OR Monday morning.  I will need the packets back as SJM will offer other times for parents to attend and I will do the presentation so instruction is not interrupted.  Thanks so much for all that you do for your students.  ~Lena Dugas

This year, we are partnering with LHS for our Trunk or Treat/Fall Fest. It will be held on Sunday, October 22nd from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm. There will be two events in one. The front circle of LHS will be the trunk or treat area. Commons 1 (behind the English building) will be for the Fall Fest.  Kids and families will be able to walk around and trunk or treat and visit different booths in the commons.  Please complete the google form linked HERE to sign up for either a trunk or treat spot or a fall fest booth. The Fall Fest part should be hands on. We would like to have every grade-level/department represented so we can show our SJM presence.

9/25/23: Shout outs- I notice some of you are re-writing your shout outs and putting them in the red box in the work room...I just want to let you know that I do receive all the shout outs from PLCs and it's usually 20-30 of them at a time, so we read 5 a day on the announcements as to not take up too much time. I promise we will get to your shout outs :))) I appreciate the participation with shout outs this year!!

2. Only Kindergarten students should be using the Kindergarten bathrooms. Please make sure Ss go to the restroom prior to going to music or PE. If it is an emergency, students should go to the restroom they are supposed to go to. We are having problems with students putting paper towels on the floor and the K teachers have been working hard to monitor their students. 

9/18/23: If any teacher is interested, I will start staying after school on Tuesday's (starting Tuesday, October 3rd) to assist with planning, annotating, data analysis, creating test, etc.  It will be from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, in data room and a stipend will be offered. Paula Gary

2. Always be firm, fair, and consistent. If students are not meeting behavior expectations, simply stop and practice those procedures until the procedure is sustainable. 

3. ALL students MUST wear their picture IDs on the top left-hand corner of their t-shirt/polo. Set a timer or practice the procedure for putting them on in the morning and taking them off and storing them before they leave.

9/1/2023: Good morning everyone.  Now that we have data on our students, extended learning groups can be made. With that in mind, if you did not place your name on the extended learning list for tutoring and you would like to tutor, please add it HERE.  I will also send you a Google Calendar invite once groups are formed so that we can do our first planning meeting.  I am trying for a start date of September 13th.   It is going to be a great year.  I appreciate each and everyone of you.  ~ Lena Dugas

9/1/23: Happy FriYAY everyone. I have several announcements for today.

1. Support staff should begin using the QR code to sign out and back in for lunch only. Workroom sign in will still be for arrival and dismissal. 

2. Sampson is on campus today and we will try to get around to see everyone. Please remind students they do not have to pet him, but may if they want to. They should remain in their seats (if in the classroom), or stand in a straight line (if they are transitioning). Sampson and I will walk around to let them pet him. 

3. Make sure you set a reminder for yourself to get into the habit of collecting student IDs at the end of the day. Students should not be taking them home. They should wear them on the top left corner of their t-shirt or polo throughout the day. 

4. A SUGGESTIONS box has been placed in the workroom by the sign-in computer. It is locked and available for anyone to make suggestions or address concerns. Remember that in order to create a truly positive school culture for both our students and faculty, we must be willing to hold each other accountable for meeting the expectations and also be willing to grow together. 

5. Take pictures of the wonderful things you are doing with your studnets and send them to Ms. Sanders so she can post them on Facebook. *Make sure all children in the picture can be photographed. 

6. The Behavior Check-in meetings will not be held today during PE. Instead we will begin these meetings on the 3rd Friday of September. Times have been added to the staff calendar. 

7. Ms. Green will be representing SJM for the Teacher Advisory Panel with Mr. Touchet. Thank you for all who voted. Thank you Ms. Green for graciously accepting this role. 

9/1/23: Coca-Cola fundraiser forms are in your boxes. Please send these home with students today. Fundraiser starts Tuesday 9/5/23. 

8/31/23: If you know of any of your students that have lost a family member and are grieving (maybe a parent disclosed this information to you), please let your grade-level counselor know. We are working on creating a Healing House group. Thank you!

8/31/23- If you have any students that were selected for a leadership position, please allow them to begin their jobs today. Patio greeters will go to their assigned patio door at 3:09pm and library assistants will meet Mrs. Landry in the library at 3:00pm. Custodian leaders and learning center tutors will be assigned their designated times as soon as possible. Thank you!

8/29/23: Good afternoon everyone. Information for open house:

1. PreK-2nd grade is tonight

2. 3rd-5th grade is tomorrow

3. Both are from 5:00-6:30 pm however, we have asked that parents arrive no later than 5:30 pm in order to get to your class in time to hear procedures and routines etc. 

4. Teachers may leave afterschool, but need to be in their classrooms no later than 5:00 pm. You can start the Title I meeting video as soon as the majority arrive (it is approximately 15 min long and is mandatory to show). 

5. Go over all of your important information, a little bit about yourself, what homework looks like, procedures and routines, discipline (conduct sheets), signing agendas, communication information, this is a good time to remind parents about paying fees and the importance of paying for them. 

6. Show the Zoom recording for the Annual Title I Meeting linked HERE. Please open it and make sure it plays on your promethean board prior to open house.  The  If it says it is still processing, just down load it and it should play. 

7. Auxiliary teachers are asked to start each night in the cafeteria for our staff introductions and brief parent talk. You only have to stay one night. Your duties will be to guide parents to the proper classroom. (Paras and tutors are not required to stay). 

8. Make sure your parents sign-in when they get to your room. After Open House, please turn these sign-in sheets to my box.

08/27/23: There are a few announcements:

• Lexia placement online should be completed Monday during RTI for T2 and T3 reading students. Please have students log into Lexia Core 5 as a student and it should automatically be assigned.  If a student that is T2 or T3 reading was not assigned a placement test, please email or text me. 985-518-6057 or lmdugas@

• RTI: Paper copies of the RTI Attendance and Intervention Logs will be placed in your box on Monday morning.  I sent out the RTI folders on Saturday and each tiered student list has been updated.  The first page of the RTI attendance and intervention log has your tiered student list. A tab should be created for each tiered student or keep a paper copy in you PLC binder.   Google Sheets  with the RTI lesson plan template has been added and a tab reflecting each week should be created (I have done the first month for you) OR you can turn in a paper copy on before 8am on Mondays. 

• Paper or digital lesson plans should be accessible for weekly PLCs. 

• K-5 iReady Math:   Is extended to Wednesday, August 30, thereafter the window will close.  Please make sure that all students complete the iReady BOY assessment.  

• DIBELS: Makeups are taking place.  Hopefully, it will be completed by end of day tomorrow.

8/25/23:  1st and 2nd Grade ELA Teachers - Edulastic has been assigned for you (not students) to input your students’ data for CKLA BOY benchmark. The assessment will close on August 30. Please have your data in by then.  Please refer to the ELA weekly newsletter from the ELA Department that was emailed today for directions or let me know if you need any help.  - Sarah Dupont

8/24/23: A couple of reminders:

1. Please check your assigned arrival and dismissal times. It is a non-negotiable that you arrive on time and leave no earlier than your assigned dismissal time. Leaving early without notifying administration or leaving campus during the day without prior approval can be considered fraudulent and result in disciplinary action. 

2. Teachers should be in their classrooms ready to receive students each day no later than 7:45 am. Students enter classrooms at 7:45 am and should not be left in the patio/hallway after 7:45 am. 

3. It is unlawful to leave students unsupervised at any time. 

4. An expectation has been set for positive interactions between faculty/students as well as faculty/faculty. Any concerns should be brought to the attention of administration and should not be discussed with other staff members. This does not contribute to a positive work environment and does not support a positive school culture. 

5. Thank you for all you do. It is truly a pleasure to work with you all and I look forward to wonderful things this year. 

8/24/23:   Next week for PLC's, please bring your PLC binder from last year.  Please store all old data from last year.  If you need a PLC binder, we will get it to you on your PLC day. Also, please bring a printed copy of your weekly newsletter.  

8/23/23:  ELA Teachers in Grades 2-5, please STAR TEST all of the ELA students that you teach before you go to the library next week. We need this done by then so that your students can check out books when you go to the library next week.  Also, please closely monitor them while they take their tests so that their reading levels are correct.  If you are unsure how to test them in Renaissance Place then please ask me.  I would be happy to help. 8/22/23: STUDENT LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS (3rd-5th) are in your boxes. If students wish to apply for a position, please have them complete the form and turn it in by Friday afternoon. I printed 50 copies per grade level (that's about as many that would apply in previous years).  If you need more, please let me (Talyn) know. Thank you so much!

8/22/23: Great idea of the day! Ms. Setaro is going to place a Velcro dot on her students Chromebook so students can scan their QR code to get into Clever and then they place it back on the Chromebook so they don't lose it. If you have great ideas that you would like to share with others please let me know :-)

8/22/23: Good morning! 

1. Warm body count this morning. We will pick these up asap after the bell rings so we can get the information entered for central by 9: 00 am. 

2. Lock down drill is today around 8:15 am. Things to review with your students:

   • Lights off

   • Students are sheltered in the safest place away from the door as possible

   • Teaching STOPS

   • Do not open the door for anyone, for any reason regardless of what is asked of you

   • Lock down ends ONLY when the announcement of the following words: "ALL CLEAR". It can be said repeatedly or only once, but anything other than those words will not lift the lock down. 

   • Doors should be locked at all times. 

   • Do NOT open the door to pull other students into your class.

• Please place these documents in a stack, paper clip them together, and place a sticky note on top with the homeroom teacher's name.

• Turn these in to the front office Ms. Lynette or Mrs. Sanders' box. 

8/21/23:  Teachers, some of you need to give us access to your newsletter in Google Classroom.  

How to share your newsletter in Google Classroom and give access to admin:  

1. Go to the doc in Google Drive.

2. Select Share .

3. Enter the email address or Google Group you want to share with. ...

4. To decide what role people will have with your folder, select Viewer, Commenter, or Editor.

8/18/23: Happy FriYAY SJM! First full week is almost complete. :-)

1. I want to let you all know how appreciative I am of all you are doing. This first week has been so calm and my heart is filled with joy in seeing the smiles and laughter from staff and students. While we will continue to work on building a positive culture, I want to thank you for really embracing these goals. You are amazing individuals! 

2. We will have a firedrill at 8:30 am. Please review procedures and evacuation routes with your students. 

3. EVERY classroom MUST have a calm down corner. You have to work with students to show them and practice how they should use the calm down area, what activities they can do to help self regulate, and praise those who utilize these areas in the correct way (not always a public praise though). Some of you have worked with students already and students are using these strategies to self regulate. 

4. Remember: your attitude affects your actions, which affects the students' attitude, which affects the students'' behavior.  

   • Model positive behavior and positive interactions with colleagues and students.

   • It is NEVER okay to yell or scream at another employee or student. 

   • If conflicts between colleagues cannot be resolved in private, then they should ask for help and administration will help to mediate a conversation. 

8/18/23: No Show Forms and Proof of Residence documents

•  Please complete no show forms by 8:10 (these were placed in your box in the workroom). Follow instructions on the form and have them hanging outside your door, someone will be around to pick them up. 

• Proof of Residence: Please place all submitted proof of residence documents (gas/electrical bill, notarized statement, and third government document) in one stack. Place a paperclip on the stack and a sticky note on top with the homeroom teacher's name. Please send these to the front office by 9:00. We will begin sending letters home next week for those students who have not submitted all required documents. 

8/17/23- If anyone needs school supplies, please stop by Mr. Jacob's office by the end of the day tomorrow to take some! We have Crayons, Markers, Pencils, Pens, Loose leaf paper, Composite notebooks, and scissors. We have a surplus of these supplies donated to us by Love Inc.

8/16/23: CPI Initial and Refresher Course 2023-2024 School Year

• Please see the attached sheet for information on which date you will need to register to attend CPI Initial training or Refresher course. Let me know if you have any questions (Mrs. Sanders)

• You will need to log into wisdomwhere to register to attend CPI. Once you have registered in wisdomwhere you will then enter an absence in EARRS for the day. Please code it as "In Parish Professional Leave"

• After registering in wisdomwhere AND entering your absence, please email me (alsanders@lpssonline.com) to notify me you are registered.

8/16/23: 1. Homeroom teachers: please turn in all of your technology forms (out them in a stack with a clip and a sticky note on top with your name) no later than 9:00 am this morning. We need to get the permissions entered so students will have access to their google accounts. 

2. We will follow the chromebook checkout schedule for K-2nd grade today. I will look at the times to make sure it doesn't interfere with PE and we will move those times for those affected. 

3. Remember to have a positive attitude and use your thinking brain and not your emotional brain when handling difficult behaviors or conflict. It takes practice, but the key is to be firm, fair, and consistent. This also applies to your colleagues. Have a great day everyone. 

8/15/23: Reminder - Behavior plan daily sheets (red folder) need to be emailed to Mrs. Lystra Butler daily so she can input the scores into Review360. If you have questions or would like to input the data yourself at the end of each day, please reach out to your grade level counselor for assistance. Thank you! :) 

08/15/23: Good morning SJM! 

1. If you need a doorbell for your room, please stop by my office. Remember to teach students to open the door only when someone knocks or rings the doorbell. 

2. Don't forget to practice your 30 second interventions and to teach students how to use the calm down corner in your room. If you need the counselors to assist with discussing the different emotions students may feel, please reach out to them. I'm sure they will be willing to help. 

3. Fire drill this afternoon (2:45 pm). You should bring your roster and the "All Good" or "Needs Assistance" sign with you. Practice the procedure for evacuation with your students prior to the drill so they will know what to do.

08/15/23: There are a few extra faculty members on campus for the next few weeks. Some of the SOAR team will be on campus helping with student behaviors and strategies to assist in managing them in a positive way. SOAR is the K-5th grade alternative program that will provide an alternate setting for students struggling with behaviors. They will also be pushing into 4th and 5th grade classrooms to help teachers, work with students, and to observe teaching practices so they can improve their teaching strategies at SOAR. 

08/15/23:  Updated:  The Dibels platform is not running yet.  District is confident it will be ready on Wednesday.  I have adjusted the schedule so that EL students are tested first.  Mrs. Dugas and Lisa Smith are the only two that will be testing EL students.  Please click HERE for a revised tentative iReady and DIBELS testing schedule starting tomorrow.  If the platforms are not ready for Wednesday, I will let you know so please check the announcement page again tomorrow afternoon.  Email me with questions or concerns.  ~Lena Dugas

8/14/23: Doors must be closed and locked at all times. If a someone jiggles the handle, ask your students to wait until they ring the doorbell or knock on the door. 

Also, Ms. Landry or Ms. Fran will be happy to laminate items for you if you could drop them off in the library (with a note of what you would like) and complete the library request form (the link was in the weekly updates). There will be a 48 hour turn around time for lamination. Thank you

5/18/23:  ALL TEACHERS tomorrow afternoon we will have our hot dog treat recess to reward our students who showed growth on their ELPT test. I will be placing their tickets for this event in your boxes. Please give each student their ticket when they leave to come to recess.  We will call them when it is time and they will need to report to the playground.  Also, please place the copies that I gave each of you of each student's ELPT scores and LEP Accomodation plans in their cumulative records files.
