Book Care
Help your child learn to take proper care of their library books:
Select a safe place at home for library books away from young siblings and pets.
Keep water bottles inside a Ziploc plastic bag to prevent water damage.
Clean hands are best when reading!
Read either before or after eating and/or drinking.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer software program that helps monitor and track students’ reading progress.Â
Students read books within their reading level and when they are finished, they take a short quiz on the computer.
Each student in grades 2-5 is initially given a computer-generated test/screening called the STAR Test to determine his/her AR reading level. Â
Only students who score above average on DIBELS will be able to participate in Acclelerated Reader.
Students learn how to find books through a color-coded system used in the library.Â
Books for AR can come from various sources:Â school library, public library, the bookstore, home, etc.
Reading goals are generated each quarter from individual reading levels.
Students receive special recognition and incentives for meeting their personal AR goal.
