This page is the math reflection for your year in math class. It should be filled out before your conference with your parents and should guide you in discussing how math has been this year and is progressing this semester. It should also allow you to develop a plan and goals to finish the year strong.
Please discuss the following topics as a family:
“Throughout this year in math class, we have learned about…”
1. expressions and equations
2. percents
3. unit rate
4. percent proportions
5. graphing
6. integers and rational numbers
Something I found that was easy was graphing.
Something I found that was interesting was percents, since it was easy and hard at the same time which confused me.
Something that was difficult for me was integers and rational numbers because it had lots of steps and felt unnecessarily hard.
What is your current Academic Mark?
I have a 2.5 in math.
What types of assignments make up my academic mark?
I have a wide variety of scores, most of them being 4's.
What has Mr Tuke allowed us to use on most quizzes, tests and assessments to help the class remember how to complete the problems?
Mr. Tuke gives us calculators, and songs to help remember.
What do you think your work habit grade should be?
I think my work habits grade should be a 3, since even if math is hard for me I try my best to turn in most things on time.
What does your work habit grade mean, and why should you feel that it is important?
It shows I participate in class.
Do you have any missing assignments?
I do, but the assignments missing are due to my absences and I am working on improving them.
Do you have any late assignments?
Yes I do.
Why do you think we look at this information?
We look at this to better understand my effort and participation.
How does homework impact your math academic grade?
It impacts it since not only does it help prepare for in class activities, but it also tanks your grade if you don't do homework.
After the discussion about math, discuss the following:
Does your grade represent your work in class and at home?
What do YOU want your grade to be in math by the end of the semester? Why?
How are you going to achieve this goal?
How can Mr. Tuke help you succeed?
If there are any questions, please call Mr. Tuke over when he is free to talk.
Thanks to families for coming!
