This page is the math reflection for your year in math class. It should be filled out before your conference with your parents and should guide you in discussing how math has been this year and is progressing this semester. It should also allow you to develop a plan and goals to finish the year strong.
Please discuss the following topics as a family:
“Throughout this year in math class, we have learned about…”
1. expression & equations
2. percents
3. unit rate
4. percent proportions
5. graphing
6. integers and rational numbers
Something I found that was easy was… percents because to find the percent you put the number over 100 and get the decimal version multiply the decimal by the whole to get the percent of the whole. (EX: 21% of 100=X=21/100 x 100=X=0.21 X 100=X. X=21)
Something I found that was interesting was… Expressions and equations because i've always been very comfortable with equations because you just solve for the answer (EX:1+1+2) and not as comfortable with expressions because i'm not used to solving for parts of an equation (EX:6+X=8).
Something that was difficult for me was… Rational numbers because i didn't get it at first and i was really confused but now i get it because if it's not a perfect square it's irrational.
What is your current Academic Mark?
2.5
What types of assignments make up my academic mark?
Tests.
What has Mr Tuke allowed us to use on most quizzes, tests and assessments to help the class remember how to complete the problems?
Calculators.
What do you think your work habit grade should be?
3.
What does your work habit grade mean, and why should you feel that it is important?
It means I work well on turning in assignments and just good at being organized and that's important because it means i have good habits.
Do you have any missing assignments?
Nope.
Do you have any late assignments?
Only one because i turned it in after it was due and the day it was due i was absent.
Why do you think we look at this information?
So it can show how good i'm doing.
How does homework impact your math academic grade?
Homework impacts my grade because if i don't do it i get a 0 and it brings down my grade if i do everything on it i get a 3 which can keep my grade the same or boost it.
After the discussion about math, discuss the following:
Does your grade represent your work in class and at home?
What do YOU want your grade to be in math by the end of the semester? Why?
How are you going to achieve this goal?
How can Mr. Tuke help you succeed?
If there are any questions, please call Mr. Tuke over when he is free to talk.
Thanks to families for coming!
