This page is the math reflection for your year in math class. It should be filled out before your conference with your parents and should guide you in discussing how math has been this year and is progressing this semester. It should also allow you to develop a plan and goals to finish the year strong.
Please discuss the following topics as a family:
“Throughout this year in math class, we have learned about…”
1. probability
2. percents
3. unit rate
4. percent proportions
5. graphing
6. integers and rational numbers
Something I found that was easy was the graphs unit with amplify was fun, and I think I understood everything with percentages, like 1-4, quite well.
Something I found that was interesting was how much we worked with percentages this year. (Probability, percentages, I think unit rate, and percent proportions.)
Something difficult for me was that, at the start of the year, I didn't know why, but I was used to not having homework, and it was hard to focus on working with multiplying and dividing negative numbers.
What is your current content grade?
3
What types of assignments make up my content grade?
Mostly things that we did in the amplify unit, but there are only 3 things that make up my content knowledge.
How have you prepared for any quizzes or assessments? Has your strategies been working?
The day before, I take everything out of my math folder related to that unit and review everything. I think it works well, but sometimes I forget it. Overall, it does help.
What do you think your work habit grade should be?
I am quite happy with a 3.5, but if there was a middle between 3.5 and 4, I think I should receive that because I do a lot of homework :)
What does your work habit grade mean, and why should you feel that it is important?
I think it all consists of homework, and it is important because it shows I put effort into trying to do things so that I remember them.
Do you have any missing assignments?
I missed a lot more days in this semester than last semester, and that has caused some confusion around my assignments, so I currently have 3.
Do you turn in any assignments late?
No. I try not to, and I do my homework usually the day it was assigned.
Why do you think we look at this information?
I think you look at it so that we can understand the grades we are earning.
How does homework impact your math content grade?
I think it impacts it because the homework is related to the assignments, and the assignments count toward quizzes, which counts to our grade. So studying is critical to understanding the unit, and thus is homework.
After the discussion about math, discuss the following:
Does your grade represent your work in class and at home?
What do YOU want your grade to be in math by the end of the semester? Why?
How are you going to achieve this goal?
How can Mr. Tuke help you succeed?
If there are any questions, please call Mr. Tuke over when he is free to talk.
Thanks to families for coming!
