Señora Marshall

¡Hola!  I am Janelle Marshall and I'm thrilled to be joining the Powell community as a Spanish teacher.  I am originally from Reno, Nevada and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Spanish.  My husband Matt and I love being a part the LPS district along with our 5 kids.  Matt is a Spanish teacher at Newton Middle School, and our 5 kids have either graduated from or are currently attending LPS schools.  I love spending time with my family, watching or playing sports, cooking, reading and being active outside.

I look forward to sharing my passion for Spanish language and culture with my students.  I have had wonderful opportunities to learn and experience the richness of this language and the people who speak it through study, travel and living abroad.  My husband and I lived in a small town in Mexico for several months (top left picture) where we taught in the school, organized a soccer league, and offered community English classes.  Our family lived in another small town in Costa Rica (bottom left picture) for a summer where our children attended school and we volunteered in classrooms.  We treasure the understanding and perspective we gained during those times.

I love being involved in the Powell community.  Outside of the classroom I enjoy my role as head coach of the 8th grade girls and 8th grade boys basketball teams.  I am also the co-sponsor of Powell's Student Council.  This summer I will be leading a group of Powell students on a trip to the Dominican Republic.  There is so much good happening at Powell and I feel lucky to be a small part of it.

I am excited to spend this school year with you!
