Science Rocks! Science Rocks!Science Rocks!Science Rocks!Science Rocks!Science Rocks!Science Rocks!
I grew up in St.Catharines, Ontario, Canada playing many sports and spending my summers lifeguarding and teaching swimming. Science was always my favorite subject, especially in high school! I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. (Biology major and Chemistry minor) Then I earned a diploma in Environmental Management from Niagara College and spent three years working in a toxicity lab testing effluent water to help clients stay in compliance with government guidelines. That was when I realized I needed to be around more people everyday. I volunteered as a study supervisor and tutor at my high school, so I decided to return to school for my Masters degree in Education at Niagara University in Niagara Falls, NY. This allowed me to interview for American teaching positions because I held a NY State temporary teaching license. I planned to go to Denver for a one year adventure, and I never left. I love Colorado!Â
My husband is a Denver native, and we have two children Isaiah who is in 12th grade, and Tabitha who is in 9th grade. We have a rescue Guinea Pig named Melvin, and a dog named Arrow. We love camping, stand-up paddleboarding, playing volleyball, and tennis. Hockey, basketball, volleyball, diving, track and field, and swim team are the sports our kids are involved in. I coach both volleyball and officiate at swim meets. We love sports! We are also very active at our church and try to participate in community service as a family.
This is my 25th year in education! I started my career as a science and math teacher at an independent school in Canada. In 2001, I moved to Denver to teach 7th-grade science in DPS. After four years at Grant Middle School, I moved to Denver School of the Arts to teach 8th, 9th, and 10 grade science for two years. For thirteen years I was at Kent Denver School teaching 6th grade math and science as well as advising and coaching volleyball. Getting students excited about science is what I love about teaching. This is my 6th year at LPCS and I love it more every year!
