About Ms. Rogness

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be teaching fifth grade here at Dr. Justina Ford! Since stepping into my first 5th grade classroom in the fall of 2006, I have never tired of the joy of building relationships with my students and their families and being just one small part of their journey through school.

The Teacher

I began my teaching career at P.S. 172 in Brooklyn, New York in 2006 after earning a master's degree in Elementary Education from New York University. After teaching for several years, I became the founding principal of P.S. 516 in Brooklyn, New York, and served there until 2019 when my family relocated here to Colorado. I took time off with my two young children while also starting to work as a paraprofessional at Ford. When the opportunity arose to become a 5th grade teacher, I jumped at the chance and have loved teaching again in our amazing school community.

In my classroom, I believe that social-emotional development and relationships are equally (if not more) important as the curriculum that is taught.  My goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe, respected, and heard - but are also challenged to grow socially, emotionally and academically. I always have and continue to hold high expectations for all my students: not only their academic learning, but the part they play as kind human beings in our classroom community. I hope that over the course of the year, students see their strengths, advocate for their needs, thrive in a supportive community, and ultimately strive to be the best person they can be.

The Person

When I am not teaching, I am busy at home with my family. I have two children, Lehan and Cora, who amaze me and bring me joy every single day. My husband Craig grew up in Highlands Ranch and works in the finance industry. We have the best elderly and sweet beagle, Francie, and a curious and coy cat Rita, that keep us on our toes. I love to read anytime, explore the outdoors, and eat unique foods. I have proudly completed several marathons, qualified for the Boston Marathon (one of the goals on my bucket list), and love going to see a great concert. I am a passionate fan of college basketball (Go Villanova Wildcats!) and football (Go Minnesota Vikings!) and enjoy playing golf, hiking, and biking with my family. My dad was a pilot and because of that, traveling to new and different places has been an important part of my life. I love being able to travel with my family and expose my kids to new and different people, places, and cultures. We’re never too old to learn new things and start new chapters in our lives!
