Paraprofessional Team

Laura Stenzel

I’ve been in Colorado for a little less than two years. Before making Colorado my home I lived in Virginia. I have a Bachelors of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Mary Washington College. Realizing that I didn’t want to follow that path, I switched gears. The University of Virginia was my next stop where I earned a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction for grades 4-8 and my teaching license for middle school (grades 4-8). I worked for Stafford County Public Schools for 23 years. I substituted for two years while my daughters were young, taught fifth grade for 17 years, and fourth grade for four years. While I was a general education teacher, I worked with students of all academic abilities.

I couldn’t see myself doing anything other than working in education. While figuring out what role I wanted to play, I became a substitute for LPS. A long term substitute job turned into a full-time position within six weeks in the center-based program at Peabody. I became a SPED paraprofessional. I totally love my job!! I get to continue working with this amazing group of students at Ford Elementary. I’m looking forward to this new adventure.
