Welcome to

8th Grade Science

Greetings!

Hello Students and Families,

I am Mr. Collins! 8th grade is an incredible and exciting time on the educational journey. We will be using all the skills you have built during previous grades to achieve academic success as you conclude your time in middle school all while planning and preparing you to do well in high school. This is the class where you will finally learn about Isaac Newton himself and his legendary scientific ideas... which also happen to be some of my favorite parts of science.

To introduce myself, I am thrilled to be joining Newton Middle School. This is my very first year as a teacher; I just graduated from Vanderbilt University where I studied Secondary Education and Physics. I previously trained and student taught 7th grade science and 11th grade honors physics in Metro Nashville Public Schools. I also worked at two science museums where I presented live science experiments (including some with fire, explosions, chemicals, cryogenic materials, and electricity)!

I just moved to Denver and am currently enjoying all the views, nature, biking, food, and city with my friends and roommates. Let me know of places I should check out!

Me and my closest teacher friends!

A Ruben's tube uses sound waves to compress flammable gas which then 'dances' to the sound (I also use the flames for marshmallows)!
