Why did I choose EPIC...
When I was in high school, like most of you, I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up. My road to where I am today has many curves, and if EPIC was available for me when I was young, I may have had a straighter path.
I started my college journey at Colorado State University and graduated with a degree in Construction Management. After graduation, I moved to Las Vegas and was a Project Engineer on the Paris Hotel, Planet Hollywood and the Green Valley Ranch Hotel. I worked construction for about 6 years and one day decided to become a real estate broker and open my own real estate company. Real Estate was awesome, but came with many long hours and lots of weekends.
In 2005, I decided to change career paths and went to nursing school. Why nursing? you may ask. In all honesty, I heard they worked 3 days per week (three 12 hour shifts) and was looking for a flexible scheudule. In 2007, after a lot of hard work, I received my BSN-RN. I worked in the Bone Marrow Transplant ICU at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. I loved the ICU and caring for critcally ill patients, but what I really loved was educating new nurses. I became the lead nursing educator on my unit and knew that education was where I wanted to go.
In 2011, I transitioned to nursing education at the postsecondary level teaching nursing courses and was the Assistant Director of Nursing at Concorde Career College.
In 2013, the opportunity came for me to teach a high school Nurse Aide course. I gladly accepted and became the Program Coordinator for NA's at Littleton Public Schools. In 2015, I received my Master’s Degree in Nursing Education and have been thrilled to teach ever since.
Outside of school, I love being outdoors, in the sun, with her husband and 2 dogs (Nate Dawg and Lil Wayne). I have 3 incredible daughters that I'm so proud of. Maria is a CNA, Taylor is a Police Officer and Lexie is a senior at CU Boulder studying engineering! I also keep busy with a peach orchard in Palisade, Colorado. I've very passionate about sports, especially the Denver Nuggets, and will talk basketball all day long!
I can't wait to get to know you!
