Pre-K:
We will have story time each visit. We will also be learning the parts of a book, how to treat our books and how to find books we like in the library.
Kindergarten:
We will have a story time at the beginning of each class. We will learn the parts of a book, how to use a library, take care of our books, what due dates are and how we can find books in a library.
1st Grade:
We will have a story time at the beginning of each class. We will learn the parts of a book, what a fairy tale is, as well as how to choose a book based on their interests. We will compare and contrast fiction and non-fiction. Students may begin learning how to take an AR test towards the second semester. They will learn how to earn points for AR dress down day and AR T-shirts!
2nd Grade:
We will have a story time at the beginning of each class. We will be learning about the parts of a story including main character, beginning, middle and end as well as trying some AR non-fiction quizzes and reading books to reinforce topics they are studying. We will also learn about call numbers and how to find a book in the library. Watch the tree in the hallway outside of 2nd grade to see how many leaves sprout from 2nd graders that have taken AR quizzes!
3rd and 4th Grade:
Will be working hard on sharpening our reading skills by exploring different genres of literature. Reading non-fiction requires different skills which we will be talking about and working on together. We will also develop our ability to find books in the library by reviewing the Dewey Decimal system and call numbers. AR quizzing will be available and encouraged so that students can earn AR dress down days, AR t-shirts, and try to earn a million words!
5th and 6th Grade:
All students will have the option for a weekly library elective. Students will refresh their research skills both in the library and online, be introduced to new books, and take AR quizzes if they choose. Their final project will be creating book trailers for our website.
