Meet Mrs. Collier

Hello first grade families! I am Carla Collier and I am honored and excited to be your child’s first grade teacher at Highland Elementary this year.

I was born and raised in Pearl City, Hawaii and have been living and teaching in Colorado since 1993. I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a B.Ed. degree in elementary education and a minor in human development. I also have a M.S. degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. It has been a privilege and joy to teach in LPS at Franklin Elementary for the past 18 years as a K-1 teacher and literacy specialist.

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling with my family and friends; relaxing in my backyard with a good book with my mini-schnoodle, Koa; and taking long walks in the beautiful Colorado sunshine.

I am looking forward to a great school year with you and your first grader!

“My mission is to create a classroom community where children care about each other, feel connected, and have a positive feeling of self worth. I will nurture and build upon the natural love of learning that young children have. I will help my students to see themselves as learners and thinkers who understand that taking risks is an important part of the learning process. I will provide purposeful, challenging, and diverse learning experiences that ensure that all students achieve to their full potential.”
