Personal Development
Course Overview:
This 9-week Personal Development course emphasizes strengthening self-esteem, recognizing and resisting negative peer pressure, communication, conflict resolution, practical problem-solving, decision-making, and developing coping and resiliency skills for dealing with life and high school issues. The curriculum includes The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey, along with the district social-emotional learning curriculum called Mental Notes taught by Ms. Nagode, one of the school social workers at Heritage. This course is designed to help students with their academic classes at Heritage High School and prepare them for post-secondary life (college, workplace, etc.). They will receive .25 general elective credit for this 9-week course and an A - F grade in Infinite Campus at the end of the quarter.
Families may request optional assignments if the planned curriculum offends their religious or personal values. Please inform me in writing if you prefer that your student not participate in a particular activity or assignment, and please offer a reason for your preference.
