Math:
In Unit 14 of Reveal Math, we build on and formalize our understanding of shapes as we learn to define and name the building blocks of geometric figures, describe and classify shapes in more complex ways, and apply geometric concepts and properties to solve problems. We work and build on a framework of founding geometric concepts and skills by addressing the following objectives:
Understand Points, Lines, Line Segments, and Rays: We identify and draw points, lines, line segments, and rays.
Classify Angles: We classify angles as right, acute, or obtuse.
Draw and Measure Angles: We use a protractor to measure angles and draw angles of a specified measure.
Understand Parallel and Perpendicular Lines: We apply angle concepts to recognize parallel and perpendicular lines.
Add and Subtract Angle Measures: We use equations to find unknown angle measures. We apply this understanding to solve problems involving unknown angle measures.
Classify Polygons: We use properties of shapes to classify polygons, including triangles and quadrilaterals.
Understand and Draw Lines of Symmetry: We develop an understanding of lines of symmetry and apply this understanding to draw lines of symmetry on two-dimensional shapes.
*Please note that students who work with Mrs. Wells for math are focused on compacted fourth grade and fifth grade curriculum standards, and students who work with Mrs. Hogue for math are focused on fifth grade curriculum standards.

Science:
Earthquakes can strike without warning, bringing massive destruction, but knowing where they happen can help reduce the damage caused. Just like real engineers, we will travel around the world to map real-life earthquakes as they happen, investigate how to minimize the damage caused by natural disasters, and use that knowledge to design and build our own earthquake-proof buildings.
