Student Expectations

While we may be attending school from "home", continue to Be REAL and show positive behaviors.

Students

  • ALL students are expected to complete the attendance form DAILY.

  • Complete and submit assignments posted on Google Classroom, the district’s online learning platform.

  • Be REAL behaviors are expected online.

  • All assignments will be posted by 9:00 am with teachers available to answer questions via email/google chat/google hangouts (teacher will send link) until 12:00pm.

  • Assignments will vary according to teachers but you should expect 1-2 assignments per class, per week.

  • It is understood that students might have a wide variety of responsibilities at home during Distance Learning Days and that some may not have access to the internet. Please let us know how we can help keep you connected. Students and parents without home Internet access or with limited Internet access must inform teachers of this fact so that needed modifications to assignments and due dates can be made.

  • EMS understands this and will be flexible with those situations. However, the expectation is that students will complete the work in a timely manner as developed between student and teacher.

  • Throughout Distance Learning, the classroom teacher will be the main resource for help on assignments and lessons.

  • While a Distance Learning plan cannot completely replicate an in-session school day, efforts will be made to provide the support needed by particular students. For instance, if reading is a challenge for a student and the student has online access, the teacher may assign tasks on sites that will read text aloud. Access to counselors and administrators is also available.

Parents/Guardians

  • Attendance on a daily basis is critical for students to stay connected to their teacher and with their learning. Please help your student complete the attendance form that is sent daily by their CorePlus teacher.

  • Families are asked to inform the school if they do not have Internet access at home. LPS can help with connectivity.

  • Google Classroom and Google Suites will be the platform for online learning. A Parent’s Guide to Google Classroom may be helpful as well. Parents of students are encouraged to access Google Classroom with their child so they are clear on how instruction and assignments are presented.

  • Completion of regular assignments will require internet access by the student. Students should expect one to two assignments per class per week. This will vary according to the teacher.

  • Parents, along with teachers and students, are asked to remember that online learning days are designed to be flexible: if a child struggles with a concept or assignment and is unable to complete the work that day, parents should remind their student to communicate with the teacher about how to access help.

  • Support services are available including counselors, mental health professionals, special education teachers, and administrators.

  • Parents should contact teachers directly with any questions, concerns or frustrations they may have regarding Distance Learning assignments.
