My Personal Pathway to EPIC
In high school, I took the only two remotely medical classes offered - Athletic Training I and II, and fell in love with the human body. I was so amazed by its complexity, adaptability, and resiliency! I graduated with a BSN from James Madison University in Virginia, had my nursing license at 21, and jumped into hospital medicine. After spending my first 18 months in the hospital on a post-operative Surgical unit, I moved to the Emergency Department.
My 18 years of ER nursing experience have included working in urban Level I Trauma Centers, as well as smaller community-based hospitals. I also have a heart for serving marginalized and under-resourced populations, which led me to spend 6 months abroad with a non-profit doing cross-border work with Burmese refugees throughout Thailand.
Most recently, I was a member of the team that opened the UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hopital in early 2019. In 19 years, I witnessed a significant amount of trauma, misfortune, and chronic disease that befell patients, as well as staff burnout. I became passionate about lifestyle medicine, health advocacy, and disease prevention, leading me to become a Board Certified Nurse Coach.
I arrived at EPIC because it is the perfect place to integrate a love of adolescents, a desire to empower and engage the next generation of healthcare providers, and my own willingness to be a lifelong learner.
My husband Tim and I are both originally from the east coast, and came to Colorado to enjoy its 300 days of sunshine. Outside of EPIC, I love running, swimming, reading, and having fun with my family. Community is a big deal to me, and as an LPS parent I am passionate that EPIC delivers a unique, high-quality learning experience. I am thrilled that one day, my own kids could have the opportunity to be here as well.
I am so excited to be on this journey with you!
