Grades

Grades are based on the ability to speak, read, write and listen to German. Grades are recorded in two categories, Classwork/Assessments and the Final.

Classwork/Assessments includes individual, partner and small group activities, participation in online tasks, and quizzes or tests. Homework and vocabulary practice are also included in the classwork category.

Assessments will include quizzes and tests. These will be completed both in person and online. The Final will be around 10% of the grade. All grades will follow the standard HHS grade scale.

As a general policy, extra credit is not offered. However, if students need/want to improve their learning, they have the opportunity to complete re-takes. Re-takes can be working with the teacher to make corrections on missed items for partial credit, or re-taking an entire assessment. In the latter case, the second score is considered final.

Homework

Homework is required, but not graded daily. Homework is for practice at home/out side of class. Daily assignments are reviewed at the beginning of each class period. If homework completion becomes problematic, marks may be entered in the grade book to communicate (with students and parents) that there may be gaps in learning (due to incomplete or inconsistent work.)

If a student is absent from class, they will be worked with them in terms of time and guidance until they have completed the missing/late work. The school wide policy states students have two days for each day they are absent from school.

Behavior

To maintain a positive atmosphere, it is critical to be safe, respectful and responsible in regards to actions, individuals, ideas, and property. In general, students and their behavior will be held accountable by the Heritage High School Student Code of Conduct.

Attendance

We will follow HHS tardy policy.

Supplies

There will not be a textbook for German class, however students are provided daily handouts that are VERY important for learning. This year for German class, it is requested that students have a folder and paper notebook. The folder should contain all paper materials given in class and the notebook will function as an ongoing learning log. Students will take notes, respond to prompts and complete tasks in their German notebook. It would also be helpful for students to have their own dry erase markers.

Remote/Online

Students must log in to Google Classroom on Remote Wednesdays at the scheduled class time. Attendance will be taken. Teachers will then provide their class specific expectations. Classes can be synchronous or asynchronous in nature as determined by the teacher; however, they will be available for assistance or to provide instruction during the entire scheduled period. If school goes all online, classes will be synchronous and required. All students and staff will be online teaching/ learning for the entire scheduled class period. Full time attendance and grading policies will be enforced.
