Behavior Support

At Runyon, we are Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind.

We are a PBIS School (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support). We see learning behavior as an integral part to students' days. We seek to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff members to support students to be their best version of themselves; we work hard to recognize students and be clear about what we see them doing well and how this positively impacts the learning environment around them.

We are mindful and purposeful about how we do this at Runyon. Every classroom builds community and trust through their Morning Meetings, proactively promoting the culture we aspire to have at school, as well as address issues and concerns as they emerge in a restorative and healing way. We recognize the crucial need for students to feel safe and valued at school, and it is with these intentions in mind that we structure our Morning Meetings together and commit to enhancing the climate of our school and the relationships that make up that climate.

Students also have focused lessons during Morning Meetings around 'Life Skills,' in which they share in open and authentic dialogue about the critical skills we ALL need to be Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind members of our community. These lessons are aligned to the CASEL Social-Emotional Standards that appear on report cards, and also aligned with our 'Words of the Month.' Simply said: we care about the whole child, and understand the importance of their Social-Emotional Learning and well-being just as much as their academic growth and achievement.

When students do make mistakes, we work with them to take time to reflect on their behavior. It is important to us that we are thinking about what students need in order to be successful and what skills or problems we can support them with so that they can learn from their mistakes and move forward. This is an intentional, collaborative approach with a focus on honesty and growth mindset, knowing that the brain can and does grow as it learns.

We recognize positive behavior in many ways...

Class Dojo

Daily points to reinforce positive behavior in and out of the classroom.

Responsible RAMS

Weekly recognition for being Responsible, Respectful, Safe or Kind.

'Storied Stickers'

"Ask me to tell you the story about how I showed ________ at school today..."

RAMTASTIC Assemblies

Assemblies held 4 times a year to surprise students and staff who are 'caught' demonstrating their outstanding RAM behavior.

Currently, our plan is to have modified, virtual Assemblies while we are at school.
