Location

Athletes with current, ongoing, or chronic conditions should share this information with the coaches/Athletic Trainer as well as any documentation regarding treatment progression, timelines, and clearance.

Report any injuries occurring during practice to the Athletic Trainer immediately.

If necessary, they will refer you to a physician.

Arapahoe does have a team physician, and orthopedic specializing in sports medicine.

The athletic trainer will work with the team physician to see all injuries as quickly as possible.

Athletes can choose to use their own physician, in this case a signed clearance for return to play is required.

If you are not participating in practice due to an injury; treatment and rehab are required.

Furthermore, athletes who are unable to practice are also considered unable to play in a game. Athletes are expected to return to full participation in a practice before returning to game level competition.

Return to participation decisions will be made with communication between the athletic trainer and coaching staff following completion of return to sports evaluation on an individual basis.

ALL concussions must have written clearance from a physician and follow the Concussion protocol outlined in the Athletic Code of Conduct.

Taping will be performed by the athletic trainer and/or student assistants cleared by the athletic trainer to tape athletes.

Taping of a joint is done specifically to reduce or limit the motion of the joint. Taping can be done for preventative and post-acute treatment of injuries. All athletes needing tape will be evaluated by the athletic trainer and taping applied for specific movement restrictions. Athlete’s requiring tape will be expected to tape daily to reduce risk of reinjury. While taping does not weaken the muscles, it does reduce the body’s need for proprioceptive awareness specifically in the ankle joint, reduced proprioception increases the risk of injury to an unprotected joint.

Athletes requiring tape will need to be taped prior to practice daily.

NO SPATTING will occur due to the increased risk of injury.

The athletic trainer will not provide kinesiotape of any kind. Athletes may bring their own if they want it applied.
