B.A. in English from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana
Hello! I am so thrilled to join Newton Middle School this year as your 7th grade Language Arts teacher. I'm excited to help kids develop their authenticity and belonging. This will be achieved, in part, through the study of fictional character development, literary themes, and creative and analytical writing.
Previous to Newton, I was a GT Facilitator in the Highland, Franklin and Gaskill communities for ten amazing years. I also taught at an international boarding school--The American School in Switzerland, where I learned that combining kids from multiple cultural backgrounds can be the most difficult and rewarding teaching experience of a lifetime.
I have my B.A. in English from Hanover College (IN) and my M.A. in the Psychology of Education from CU Denver. However, my greatest strength is as a talent scout- I have a radar system for kids' humor, creativity, wit, or abstract-thinking. After 10 years in the Gifted Education world, I am an All-Star Recruiter for kids with hidden potential. Anxiety? I see you and your lightning-fast nervous system. Resistence to requirements? Let's talk about your need for autonomy. Got your hoodie up again? I get it; it's loud and bright and kind of uncomfortable . . .your brilliant mind feels everything. Every behavior is a sign of a need or hidden strength.
Ready for This Adventure,

One of my proudest contributions to education is "The Torch Award," which is an annual honor at the American School in Switzerland. It is presented to students who demonstrate exceptional abilities to connect to students from other countries. The award began in 2009 and is presented each year at the Olympics-style "Opening Ceremony." All advanced societies, and schools, benefit from friendships made across language barriers and cultural differences. Following the inclusion of K-6 students in the high school's "Flag Parade," I was inspired to launch Mathletes for Littleton Public Schools, which aligns 5th graders with High School and Middle School mentors. The opportunity to be mentored, and to gain knowledge from our peers, is profoundly impactful for all of us.
