Personal Information
I grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a beautiful suburb of Milwaukee. My husband and I have a daughter, Kendall, who attended Sandburg, Powell, and Arapahoe. She graduated from the University of Denver where she majored in Physiology in Health and Disease with a concentration in Cognitive Neuroscience. She is attending Physical Therapy school at CU-Anschutz.
Professional Background
My BA is from Marquette University where I majored in Elementary Education and Advertising with minors in Psychology and Marketing. My Masters Degree in Reading/Language Arts Education is from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. Since that time, I have completed dozens of additional classes on topics including technology in the classroom, current teaching and learning strategies, best practices in reading and writing, and 21st Century Learning.
This is my 28th year of teaching - all in grades 5-8. I taught fifth grade for four years, seventh and eighth grade for seven years, and now sixth grade for 17 years. I am thrilled to begin my 12th year as a member of the Powell community.
In addition to traditional, mixed-ability classrooms, I have taught specialized classes for both gifted and remedial learners. I use a variety of research-based strategies to best meet the individual needs and learning styles of my students.
I love working closely with families, so don't be surprised if I occasionally call or email you just to check in. I value your feedback, and your insights into your children help me best address their specific needs. By working together, we can help them reach their full potential. We are going to have a great year!
Warmly,
Marnie Jordan
