The following is a link to every Weekly Agenda for the school year. Every Agenda includes an overview of the week, a comprehensive list of each day, and any assigned homework.
Your student will have two separate grades in my class, Work Habits and Academic Content. Work Habits is an indication of how your student behaves in my classroom, as well as their work completion. Academic Content is an indication of what your student knows.
I follow the Standards Based Grading Model which uses a 4 point scale, while incorporating the A, B, C, D, F scale for Academic Content only. Standards Based Grading (SBG) is a system that allows teachers to effectively communicate understanding to parents and students. Rather than saying, "Your student knows 91.5% of math from this year", SBG aims to succinctly communicate what ideas (standards) your student is proficient in throughout the year. Below are descriptions for the grades students may receive in work habits.
0- Insufficient Evidence (the work was not completed or turned in)
1- Not Proficient (work was completed with partial understanding of foundational concepts)
2- Partially Proficient (work was completed with understanding of foundational concepts)
3- Proficient (work was completed with understanding of target concepts)
4- Exceeds (work was completed with understanding of complex concepts)
SBG aims to better communicate student understanding of specific standards within our curriculum. Therefore, many assignments and assessments may show multiple grades in Infinite Campus for the various standards being assessed. Each assignment will have a description of the activity, how it was turned in, and any additional notes for individual students.
Work Habits grades are static. You either turn something in on time or you don't, you behaved in class this week or you didn't. I will not change grades in the Work Habits section of IC (barring mistakes/errors).Therefore, this means I will not give full credit to work turned in late in the work habits category.
This year, your student will primarily be working out of our curriculum workbook in tandem with the online platform known as Savvas/EnVision.
Our physical workbook is a GREAT resource for parents at home who want to help students on difficult concepts. If you have not taken middle school math in a hot minute, NEVER FEAR! The workbook provides three examples, a set of notes, and multiple practice problems for each concept in an easy to follow format to help you and your student at home. These pages are listed out on the "Currently Working On" tab on my website.
To log into Savvas Online:
Log in to your students Clever account (this can be found in the LPS folder that is pinned to the task bar of all school assigned chromebooks)
In Clever, locate the Savvas application (Savvas Easy Bridge)
Locate Learning Systems on the right hand side and click on Savvas Realize
You have now made it to our online platform, I recommend bookmarking this page for easy access in the future
Your student may have multiple subjects using Savvas. Make sure you are under the correct class and subject every time you use the application to avoid missing assignments or confusing materials.
Throughout the year, Savvas will occasionally go offline for short periods of time without warning. If it is ever the case that your student is being asked to complete an assignment that is not available due to a scenario such as this, know that the expectation is your student emails regarding this issue.
Homework assignments on Savvas allow students to complete an unlimited amount of times, provide walk through demonstrations for most problems if students need a refresher, and give comprehensive feedback on what your student can work on to improve for the future. Know that homework grades for Savvas work are based strictly off of the system's grade, I will not see any work to correct for small mistakes.
