Hello LP Staff,
Have you ever wanted to appear on the Lincoln Park High School stage (or make a return to the LPHS stage) in a theatrical production? I am looking for additional "cut dancers" to appear on stage at the beginning of A Chorus Line: Teen Edition and thought it would be fun to invite staff to join us.
What is the time commitment?
You would be provided with a video of the dance to watch and review on your own.
You would then need to attend a portion of a dress rehearsal on either Monday or Tuesday, March 3 or 4 (both if you are able) from approximately 3-4pm to practice.
Performances are Thursday, Friday, & Saturday; March 6, 7, & 8. You could commit to one or two performances or all three (whichever you prefer).
After the opening number when you are "cut" your part is finished and you are welcome to join the audience to watch the show for free.
What else do I need to know?
You would need to provide your own costume. The show is set in 1975 so anything that reads as 70s dance clothing would be great. The same is true for hairstyle.
No prior experience is necessary. You will be playing a dancer who is cut in the first round of auditions -- so if you aren't the best dancer or are making mistakes -- that is a GOOD thing! :)
Please reach out to me if you have any questions and let me know by January 31 if you are interested.
Thanks so much,
Geoff Kopp

Good morning!
I have attached a link showing four shows, A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Nutcracker!, and 'Twas the Night Before, that you can purchase tickets for at the group price point with $5 from each ticket benefitting the Lincoln Park Music Program. You do have some choices, when available, on which date to attend.
Here is the link for tickets if easier than using the flyer: Fox Theatre Fundraiser Ticket Link
These are not for a school field trip; those purchasing tickets would provide their own transportation to the shows and travel with their family. This fundraiser is a way to support the LP Music Program while creating memories with family and friends!
Some notes about The Fox Theatre:
The Fox is a cashless venue, so credit/debit/pre-paid cards are able to be used and there is a reverse ATM that will change cash into a pre-paid card.
There is a bag/purse/coat check that is free as they don't allow bags in unless they are for medical purposes.
Aisle 1 is farthest to the left in the theater - there are sometimes long lines and it's nice to know you're going in the right direction.
Seats will be on the Main Floor and there is a good view from any seat there!
There are parking garages near the theatre that are also credit card only. Planning this prior to arriving is encouraged and apps like Spot Hero can also help with finding less expensive parking spots prior to the show day.
Arriving about an hour before the start of the show when we went to see Elf was a good amount of time as the theater does house a lot of people.
For additional FAQs, please CLICK HERE
There will be more shows available as we go into the Spring (like Peter Pan and Addams Family), but this is what is currently playing at The Fox Theatre and they are wonderful to collaborate with on these events!
Again, this is NOT a field trip with the school, but an opportunity for families to attend a show together at a lower price while supporting the Lincoln Park Music Program.
Thanks!
Mr. Donnelly

Tickets are now on sale for the Lincoln Park Theatre production of The Addams Family musical! See Mr. Kopp in Room 643 to purchase advance tickets for $10.00.
Performances are March 15 & 16, 2024 at 7:00pm in the Lincoln Park High School
Plot: In its typical creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky fashion, the ghoulish Addams family is visiting the graveyard for an annual gathering of all family members, living dead, and undecided, to celebrate what it is to be an Addams. However, the family encounters an unforeseen obstacle when Wednesday decides to introduce her new “normal” boyfriend Lucas to the family. In protest, Uncle Fester enlists the help of the Addams’ ancestors to call an end to the young budding romance. As Wednesday admits that she is falling in love, Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley worry about her changing ways. As the families of Wednesday and Lucas come together for dinner one fateful evening, chaos ensues and the two families find themselves admitting deep secrets and coming together in ways they never would have imagined. The Addams Family musical tells the story of love and friendship through adversity, with a comical and macabre yet poignant spin.

Hello Railsplitter Family,
In January 2021 I was connected with Christie Kerr, owner of Vito's Pizzeria. She expressed interest in finding a LPPS student in need of braces and offered to fund the process. Orthodontic care is considered cosmetic and most insurance companies only pay a small portion of the cost.
We quickly identified a student and partnered with SBK orthodontics to get the student's orthodontic care underway.
Christie and SBK are currently finishing up that first student's work and underway with their second student! This has been life changing for both of these students.
They have started "Brace for the Future," a 501C nonprofit to expand their outreach. Please join me at this event to raise funds for this program! I would like to donate a basket to be raffled off at the event. If you would like to make a donation towards the basket, please reach out to me!
Let's keep our students smiling bright!

From November 1st to November 5th, LPHS will be partnering with the Pulsera Project, a fair trade nonprofit organization that seeks to empower, inspire, and educate people in Central America and the U.S.
The Pulsera Project provides sustainable, well-paying work opportunities for artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala who make colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish. The project then creates a market for their artwork by partnering with schools across the U.S.
Pulseras will be sold for $5 here in our school, and the proceeds will be invested in a variety of social impact programs such as sustained employment for nearly 200 artists, legal and medical aid, education programs, housing programs, environmental initiatives, and support for other social enterprises doing impactful work in these countries.
The pulseras will be sold during 3 lunches from Nov 1-5 and in the School Store. The ELL staff will run the sale in the cafeteria. Thank you for your support.

LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is reissuing a consumer alert warning Michiganders to beware of scammers claiming to be from state or local health departments as well as vaccination clinics, asking for personal information.
“Bad actors have taken advantage of this pandemic at every turn – this is no different,” Nessel said. “Be wary of unsolicited calls claiming to be from a state or local health department or vaccination clinics. State and local health departments will never call you with threats or unrealistic demands that include asking you to hand over information like your social security number, birthdate or address.”
Attorney General Nessel offers tips to avoid becoming a victim.
Hang up if they claim to be from a government agency or vaccination clinic and:
request personal information;
make threats;
demand you get vaccinated; or
ask if you are vaccinated or where you received your vaccination.
The Department of Attorney General provides a library of resources for consumers to review anytime. Attorney General Nessel encourages everyone to review the COVID-19 vaccine scam alert for more information.
The latest information on the response to COVID-19 is always available by visiting Michigan’s Coronavirus website or by visiting the CDC’s website.
According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, if you're concerned that a call may be scam, write down the name and number of the person who called you, then reach out to your local health department to confirm the legitimacy of the call. Calls from the state contact tracing team will come from 866-806-3447 or MI COVID HELP.
During a legitimate COVID-19 contact tracing or case investigation, health departments will ask about your health and request that you verify your birthdate or address. They will also ask about and/or encourage vaccination, if you are unvaccinated. They will never ask for social security numbers, payment (such as bank or credit card information), or your immigration status.
Your connection to consumer protection is just a click or phone call away. Consumer complaints can be filed online at the Attorney General’s website, or by calling 877-765-8388.

April 2021 Grant Opportunities - The Meemic Foundation
April PopIn2Win – Acer Monitor 2Q2021 School Reception Makeover
Good afternoon,
I hope you enjoyed your spring break! As the Meemic Foundation Michigan Representative, I am excited to invite you to share our “good news” with “all employees” of your school district who don’t know who we are. As you may know, we are proud of our long history of support we give to the educational community. If you don’t know who we are, I invite to go to our website MeemicFoundation.org to learn more about us. Although today, I am reaching out to ask for support from your school district. The Meemic Foundation for years have given “all school employees” the opportunity to register for our “free” Meemic Foundation Club and apply for our monthly POPIn2Win grants and quarterly grant opportunities. Also through school employee feedback we have made it quick and easy to apply. If you do not already share our grant opportunities with your school district employees, above I have attached the exciting April grant opportunities so you can start sharing them through your communication network (newsletter/calendar).
Due to the pandemic, as a Meemic Foundation Representative, I have not been able to visit schools. Therefore, I am asking you or the appropriate person you want to designate to introduce the Meemic Foundation Club to “all employees” in your school district (communications director), to give your employees the opportunity to register and apply for our grants and learn about other Meemic Foundation club benefits. Once you introduce us, all we need is a simple snapshot of how we are being introduced in your communication network (newsletter/calendar). We appreciate your school district response to this important feedback request. Once I receive your snapshot of how the Meemic Foundation is represented, I will make sure you receive the new grant information to share with “all employees” each month as a reminder, if they are not registered, they can register and it is quick and easy to POPIn2Win each month!
Including The Meemic Foundation in your school district communication has proven to be a school district morale booster! Your feedback along with other school districts will help us to measure the success of the support we give to our over 90,000 club members. It will also assist us in evaluating our future growth potential. If you need to know more about how The Meemic Foundation supports your school district or a suggested “blurb” for your communication network, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you for all you do!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tuesday, April 6, 2021
LANSING – For Michiganders who have received or plan to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is warning them to avoid current vaccine survey scams offering a reward in exchange for personal information.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), in collaboration with a number of other federal agencies, recently issued alerts to the public due to an increasing number of victims receiving email and/or text messages after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. In the messages, people are prompted to participate in a fraudulent post-vaccine survey with the promise of cash or a prize upon completion. The bogus surveys are reportedly asking victims to pay for shipping and handling in order to receive a prize that is never delivered.
“Scammers continue to find ways to steal personal information and although many who have received the COVID vaccine have a sense of pride, it is crucial that people avoid sharing their vaccination cards for this exact reason,” said Nessel. “Bad actors are resourceful and with any piece of personally identifiable information, they will work hard to find out more about you. If you do receive a suspicious email or text, remember to never click on any unsolicited links or attachments, and also remember that no legitimate surveys will ever ask for your credit card or bank account number to pay for a ‘free’ reward.”
No post-vaccine surveys are being conducted by Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson.
Any emails or text messages that purport to be sent on behalf of these companies seeking personal financial information are illegitimate and fraudulent as these companies would never request an advanced payment for shipping or other expenses.
DO NOT open any messages or click on any links or attachments.
NEVER give out bank account, credit card, or personal information.
Michiganders can also:
Report smishing – fraudulent – text messages to 7726 (SPAM) for investigation.
Filter unwanted text messages through your wireless provider or with a call-blocking app.
As always, your connection to consumer protection is just a click or phone call away. A library of consumer alerts and additional resources are available 24/7 by clicking here. Consumer complaints can be filed online at the Attorney General’s website, or by calling 877-765-8388.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Monday, March 22, 2021
LANSING – To encourage Michiganders to consistently monitor their credit reports from all three credit reporting agencies, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today urged Michiganders to take advantage of the recently announced extension of free weekly access from Experian, Equifax and Transunion. The FTC shared the news recently that at no cost, anyone can access their credit report weekly until April 20.
In a time when there is a considerable amount of financial uncertainty for so many, Michiganders can get their free report online.
“The pandemic has brought with it financial hardship for so many Michiganders and people across the country. That is why it’s even more important for everyone to stay up-to-date on the contents of their credit reports.” said Nessel. “From being aware of potential fraudulent activity to knowing which creditors to contact for assistance, having access to these crucial financial documents is imperative to one’s financial health.”
As part of the consumer alert library available via the Attorney General’s webpage, Michiganders can reference the Free Annual Credit Reports: What Consumers Should Know alert anytime to better understand how to safely and securely access their three credit reports. Additional details related to credit freezes and fraud alerts are available here.
The FTC encourages all consumers who may be struggling to pay their bills right now because of the ongoing pandemic to:
Contact the companies you owe money to. Ask if they can postpone your payment, put you on a payment plan, or give you a temporary forbearance.
Check your credit report regularly to make sure it’s correct — especially any new payment arrangements or temporary forbearance. The CARES Act generally requires your creditors to report these accounts as current.
Fix any errors or mistakes that you spot on your credit report. Notify the credit reporting agencies directly. You can find out more by reading Disputing Errors on Credit Reports.
It is important to remember that your connection to consumer protection is just a click or phone call away. Consumer complaints can be filed online at the Attorney General’s website, or by calling 877-765-8388.

Unfortunately, the drama club will be officially closing our 2020 spring musical Bugsy Malone. We were hoping to do it at a later date but with the restrictions put on theatres and the graduates moving on it has been harder and harder to plan. With that being said, we do have the Bugsy Malone show shirts we will be selling for $10 to help recuperate the cost we would have made in ticket sales. We have limited stock but we have a range of sizes (Small to 2XL). If interested email holly.knick@lpps.info. I will have them until they run out.
We did put together a goodbye video of our pre Covid fun! Thank you for all your support!

MDE Offers Grants to Support the Development of Future Proud Michigan Educators
January 11, 2021
LANSING – As a continuation of Michigan’s efforts to grow and diversify the educator workforce and reduce educator shortages, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is launching the Future Proud Michigan Educator (Future PME) initiative with a competitive grant for school districts to develop programs for students interested in the teaching profession.
This initiative is part of MDE’s larger Proud Michigan Educator (PME) campaign that focuses on recognizing and honoring current Michigan educators.
The newest component for K-12 students provides an expanded opportunity for students in grades 6-12 to explore education professions. MDE will provide participating school districts with flexible models for implementation, content standards and curriculum, and free professional development for educators.
“We need to encourage our young people to consider developing and using their talents as proud Michigan educators,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice.
The Future PME pathways focus on four types of future teachers:
Students grades 6-12
Individuals working in pre-K-12 schools
Career changers
Educators transferring licensure from other states
Local school districts and intermediate school districts are invited to apply for funds to begin building Future PME programs. Grants of $10,000 per school are available for teams to plan for the implementation of Future PME programs. There are up to 100 grants available.
In the Future PME program, local and intermediate school districts will develop hands-on learning experiences in teaching for students, with supervision and mentoring from educators who are champions of the teaching profession and are committed to the success of the profession.
Future PME programs must be inclusive and equity-focused. Grant activities will support MDE Top 10 strategic education plan goals, including the expansion of secondary learning opportunities for students and the increase in the numbers of certified teachers in areas of shortage. Additionally, educators will be encouraged to create partnerships between K-12 schools and Michigan colleges and universities with approved educator preparation programs.
Applicants are encouraged to review the supporting materials on the Future PME website, including: application requirements, potential program designs, activities supported by this grant and suggested fund expenditures.
Applications are due by February 16, 2021. School districts are asked to please direct their questions to Holly Carruthers at CarruthersH@Michigan.gov.

As of now, we are 4-3 in match play in our league. On Monday we played Woodhaven and Trenton, losing narrowly to Woodhaven and soundly beating Trenton (!!!). I am extremely proud of these players and the work they are putting in. Some of our strongest players are in the 10th grade, so I am expecting our Railsplitters to be competitive with the top teams downriver in the years to come.
