STEM Opportunities at Southside
At Southside Elementary, our students immerse themselves in dynamic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning experiences throughout the year. Each grade level participates in three major Project-Based Learning (PBL) units and several mini PBLs, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. These hands-on projects allow students to tackle real-world problems, connecting their classroom learning to authentic, meaningful applications.
Our program includes an outdoor education component, offering students the opportunity to enhance their STEM learning in a natural setting. Southside boasts an exceptional outdoor education classroom and forest area, where students engage in hands-on exploration and environmental studies.
Additionally, students explore cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary learning in our STEAM SmartLab. Through weekly sessions, they dive into eight areas of exploration: Circuitry, Manufacturing Technology, Robotics & Control Technology, Software Engineering, Environmental Technology, Scientific Data & Analysis, Communication & Media Arts, and Mechanics & Structures. These interactive projects empower students to innovate, experiment, and develop skills for future STEM careers.
Southside’s STEM program offers an exciting, well-rounded education that prepares students to thrive in a world driven by curiosity, discovery, and a deeper connection to the environment.
