Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) are an important part of Career and Technical Education at Sandpoint High School and CTEC. Each of our CTE programs works with its own Technical Advisory Committee made up of local business and industry professionals, community partners, educators and others with expertise related to the program.
The purpose of each TAC is to provide guidance and industry perspective to help ensure our CTE programs remain relevant, rigorous and aligned with the skills students need for future careers and postsecondary education.
Our advisory members provide a valuable connection between the classroom and the workplace. Their experience helps our instructors evaluate curriculum, equipment, facilities, industry trends, workforce needs and opportunities for students.
Providing insight into current industry practices, trends and workforce needs
Reviewing curriculum and helping ensure instruction reflects current industry expectations
Providing recommendations regarding facilities, tools, technology and equipment
Identifying the technical and employability skills students need to be successful
Providing job shadows, internships, mentorships and other work-based learning opportunities
Serving as guest speakers, classroom presenters and technical experts
Hosting student tours and industry visits
Supporting Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
Helping instructors identify professional development and industry training opportunities
Assisting with long-range program planning and evaluation
Identifying opportunities for partnerships, donations, equipment and other resources
Promoting CTE programs and career opportunities throughout our community
Rather than relying on one large advisory committee for all Career and Technical Education programs, the Lake Pend Oreille School District uses program-level Technical Advisory Committees.
This approach allows each CTE program to work directly with professionals who understand that specific career field. Advisory members can provide focused recommendations based on current industry standards, local workforce needs, emerging technology and the skills employers are seeking.
Our Technical Advisory Committees support programs across the district including areas such as agriculture and natural resources, automotive, construction trades, health professions, information technology, welding, culinary arts, business, media and other career pathways.
Strong CTE programs depend on strong partnerships with local business, industry, education and the community.
Whether you can participate in advisory meetings, host a student for a job shadow, provide an internship, speak to a class, review equipment needs, or simply share your knowledge of the industry, your involvement can make a meaningful difference for students.
