The National Honor Society promotes appropriate recognition of students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, CHARACTER, AND SERVICE.

Membership in the National Honor Society is determined by four criteria: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. The first criteria being Scholarship. Juniors with a GPA of 3.9000 are eligible to apply. Applications are sent out to qualifying students via LP email after the first semester of junior year.
Potential candidates will then complete their application and be evaluated on their commitment to Service, Leadership, and Character.
Service: A minimum of 15 volunteer hours earned during 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. These hours must satisfy the following requirements:
The primary intent of the activity is to aid and assist others for the betterment of the community without compensation. Examples of such activities include support for park districts, libraries, food pantries, animal shelters, hospitals, senior centers, museums, tutoring, and participation in mission trips.
We will not accept service hours earned by supporting family members, family businesses or from providing administrative support in an office setting.
A maximum of 6 total service hours will be accepted from volunteering with or supporting any Lake Park activity, sport, or event. *This means the remaining 9 hours must be fulfilled through other means.
A maximum of 6 total service hours will be accepted from the following organizations: Feed My Starving Children, Kids Against Hunger, and Phil's Friends.*This means the remaining 9 hours must be fulfilled through other means.
All service hours must be verified by the application deadline and cannot be verified by the student or a family member.
Leadership: Students must demonstrate leadership through consistent and active participation in school activities or athletics, as well as through leadership experiences and positions held.
The Faculty Council will verify students' consistent and active participation in any activity or sport provided.
Character Review: In order to demonstrate outstanding character, students are reviewed on integrity, reliability, and attitude through a faculty character survey. Students must also maintain a record of honorable conduct for the duration of their high school careers that is unblemished by the following:
Any Code of Conduct violations (Activities or Athletic)
Any Academic Integrity/Honor Code violations (Plagiarism/Academic Dishonesty)
Students must follow all Lake Park Attendance and Behavioral Expectations.
Membership decisions will be made by the Faculty Council following a review of the candidate's application, the faculty character survey, the Dean's Office report, and verification of community service/activities.
New members and parents are invited to attend a special Induction Ceremony at the end of April. After induction, all NHS members are expected to actively engage in service. Members are required to document and submit evidence of service projects, as well as attend membership meetings. NHS members are required to complete a minimum of 25 service hours at various activities within the school and surrounding community by April of their senior year.
