Ethical Considerations
Does international volunteerism always empower local communities, or can it create dependencies? How would that apply in the context of African volunteers in Europe?
How important is it for volunteer projects to be led by the communities they aim to serve? Would European communities accept foreign-led development efforts in the same way as many Global South nations do?
If volunteers from the Global South were to work in wealthier nations, how would that challenge the idea of expertise and who holds knowledge in development work?
