Third Grade Special Education Teacher
Hi, my name is Sherene Van Dyke. I'm fairly new to Dewar. Last year, I was a long-term substitute in fifth grade for Amber Canelon, and this year I'll be working with third graders as a Special Education teacher.
A little about my teaching background: I was fortunate to stay home while my five children were young, and during that time, I volunteered in the schools they attended. About 11 years ago, I started teaching full-time. I spent five years teaching gifted students before becoming a reading specialist for a few years. After that, I took a year off to write a book that was published in 2024. This will be my third year teaching Special Education, and I'm excited to be at Dewar Elementary.
My family has moved frequently because my husband works for the Air Force. We've lived in eight states and three countries, so our family motto has always been, "Explore your own backyard, wherever that backyard may be." We love spending time outdoors, especially hiking, kayaking, and biking. In my free time, I'm an avid reader and writer, and I love playing board games with my kids and grandkids. And yes, my grandson is not happy about having his picture taken.Â
