Special Education
I have been working in education since 2005, and throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to teach students from Pre-K through high school in a variety of educational settings. My experience includes working in GNETS, self-contained classrooms, resource classrooms, and co-teaching environments. I hold an Educational Specialist degree in Special Education and a Doctorate in Ministry with a focus family dynamics (areas related to family relationships, communication, and supporting individuals within the context of their families and communities).
My experiences have taught me that relationships are at the heart of effective teaching. I believe students need to know that they are seen, heard, respected, and valued before they can fully engage in the learning process. This is especially important when working with students who may have experienced academic, behavioral, or personal challenges.
I believe that a student's behavior does not define who they are or determine who they can become. Every student has strengths, talents, and potential, even when those qualities may be difficult to see during challenging moments. My role is to help students recognize those strengths while providing the structure, consistency, encouragement, and support they need to grow.
Working in an alternative educational setting has strengthened my belief that students deserve second chances, high expectations, and adults who are willing to see beyond the behavior. I strive to create a classroom environment where students can learn from their experiences, take responsibility for their choices, develop positive relationships, and build the confidence they need to move forward.
My goal is not simply to help students succeed academically. I want to help them develop the skills, self-awareness, resilience, and confidence necessary to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom. I believe every student has a story, and I consider it a privilege to be part of helping them write the next chapter.
