Lowndes Alternative School and The Journey Program
Lowndes Alternative School and The Journey Program
Lowndes Alternative School and The Journey Program are located on the Parker Mathis Learning Center campus. Lowndes Alternative School is for students who may experience difficulty in the traditional school setting. These students may require structured alternatives within a different educational setting. The program provides additional emotional and behavioral support for students who have difficulties in these areas. Lowndes Alternative School serves middle school students from all three county middle schools and students from Lowndes High School.
The Journey Program provides intense social and emotional interventions and support for elementary and middle school students. Journey has eight classrooms with a lead teacher and paraprofessional in every room. All students participate in academic learning and social/emotional support groups. A behavior interventionist, who conducts individual and group interventions with students, is available on campus. All referrals come from the student's home school and the length of stay varies depending on the progress made by the student.
