Welcome to First Grade!

I am so excited to be your teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This will be my 5th year at Dewar teaching first grade. I previously taught at first grade at VCS and overseas in Japan.  First grade is an exciting time of discovery and growth. This is the year we become confident readers and we have loads of fun learning and practicing all of our new skills.

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. I joined the Air Force and spend six years serving our country. I met my husband in the Air Force and continued to support him as a military spouse throughout his 30 year career. We have two amazing children, Katelyn and Blake, both 20, who are away at college, and two rambunctious dogs who cause lots of mayhem. I love to share stories about all of the trouble they cause! When I am not at school your will likely find me at home trying out new recipes and relaxing with a good book.

I look forward to getting to know your child and working with your family.  Meaningful learning only happens when students feel safe and valued. I will strive to create a supportive community where all learners feel confident to takes risk and grow socially and academically.
