Welcome to Mr. Frederiksen’s Geometry Class!

First, thank you very much for taking the time to come to my website. I am really looking forward to a fantastic year at Lowndes High School. Although I have only taught at Lowndes for one year, I attended Hahira Middle School and graduated from Lowndes High School after moving to Valdosta from the suburbs of Chicago. My wife and I met at Lowndes High School, and I am extremely proud to have my three daughters attending Lowndes County Schools.

Geometry can be quite different from the mathematics that students learned in previous years. Past success and struggles from Algebra do not always carry over to Geometry. I believe students should begin to develop more responsibility at this level of education. Although I do not assign many homework assignments, I tell students daily they should spend time reviewing the concepts they learn each day in class, complete any practice problems they did not finish in class, and maintain an open line of communication with me any time they are having trouble. If students need additional assistance, I am available every Monday and Thursday from 3:00 to 3:45 for tutoring, and I am happy to stay to help students any other day as long as I do not have meetings to attend.

The best way to contact me is through email at matthewfrederiksen@lowndes.k12.ga.us. During school hours, I generally respond within two to three hours. An alternative method of communication is Remind 101. It allows me to send reminders through text to parents and students. The supplies students will need to have are basic school supplies like something to write with, any kind of paper to write on, and a binder or folder to help keep resources organized. The only other supply students will need is a scientific or graphing calculator. I would highly recommend the TI-36X Pro. It is an invaluable tool that will significantly help students this year in Geometry and also next year in Algebra 2.
