Lowndes County Schools proposes modifying school zones to balance student numbers to relieve overcrowding at several schools which will not impact 98% of our students.

Please note this is not an all-inclusive list. The posted GIS map is the prevailing document regarding addresses and land areas impacted by rezoning. Areas with an overlay grid indicate a change in a school boundary.

Process used for rezoning considerations:

Elementary School Impact

·         203 elementary students currently enrolled in zone change areas 

·         45 of these are 5th graders; 35 5th graders are not impacted by middle school changes - Impacts 168 current elementary students for next year

Middle School Impact

·         33 middle school students are currently enrolled in zone change areas impacting move from Hahira Middle School to Pine Grove Middle School

·         13 are 8th graders - zone changes impact 20 current middle school students

Total potential students impacted: 188

School Zone School Choice Application
Students impacted by the school zone changes will have the right to attend the school for which they are currently zoned. After the March 11th board meeting, upon school board approval, School Zone School Choice Application will open to allow parents/guardians to choose to remain in their current school or upcoming middle school. Parents will be responsible for transportation, and the student must have acceptable attendance.
