THE MISSION OF MEDIA CENTERS IN LOWNDES COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Media Programs of the Lowndes County School System exist to implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the schools. The media centers serve as the hub of intellectual activity at the schools. Therefore, it is the mission of each Lowndes County Schools’ media center to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
GOALS
The media center will serve the intellectual and educational needs of the school in varied ways: "by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats;" "by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas;" through acquisition of and assistance with new technologies of service and instruction; and through provision of materials to incite and excite recreational reading.
The media center will provide a facility to serve the needs of the school through the provision and coordination of meeting areas, viewing areas, classroom and production areas.
The media center will be staffed by media professionals who are knowledgeable of the many formats of media and who understand the function of the materials in teaching concepts of the curriculum.
The media staff will provide an atmosphere conducive to learning, which is comfortable, pleasing, and relaxing.
The media staff will work "with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students."
The media center staff will continually evaluate the materials and services of the media program for the purpose of identifying its strengths and weaknesses.
