In early 2024, Superintendent Gulbrandsen, along with LOUSD administrators, completed the Community Schools Grant Application. LOUSD was one of the districts awarded the grant and funds were distributed in the summer of 2024.
At the end of October 2024, the Community Schools Grant Director was hired. At the start of the 25/26 school year, two wellness coaches and one social worker for the district started and have joined the community schools team. Additionally, in October of 2025, the LOUSD Family Resource Center opened. Here, families can come in for support with resources, translation services, and to access computers and a printer.
The Community Schools Advisory Council has been formed, consisting of staff, students, parents and administrators in order to create an open forum of communication where grant implementation, progress, and goals can be discussed.
